Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, Talisay City, Negros Occidental will host the eagerly anticipated Culture and the Arts Conference and Festival for all 11 participating State Universities and Colleges in the region from March 22–26, 2024.

A must-visit 𝗢𝗷𝘂𝗸𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲, handprints of actress 𝗟𝗲𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴-𝗲𝗲 and actor 𝗦𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗴-𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗻, and the 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝘂𝗹𝗴𝗼𝗸 𝗬𝗶-𝗶.

Ojukheon House was named so due to the many ojuk, or black bamboos, planted around the area. Ojukheon House is a must-visit attraction in Gangneung, not only for its beautiful scenery but also for its historical importance.

We are beyond grateful as we immerse in the echoes of history, the symphony of gratitude resonates as we stand amidst the ancient walls, finding harmony between the melodies of the past and the gratitude in our heart.

They are doing this to show their appreciation to the Philippines for being the first Asian country to fight alongside them against Japan. For us to understand more about the culture and history of Gangneung and South Korea in general, they prepared a full-day program. They allowed us to experience what it was like to live like a local, including eating traditional dishes and donning traditional attire.

As we get ready for the second week of the World Choir Games, now is also a great time for the team to refuel their passion and energy. We played various games with our Korean foster family as we had the opportunity to take part and experience in these various activities such as;

𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁,

𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁,

We really enjoyed the time and we are grateful for the experience that was given to us. We will carry it with us for the rest of our lives and are sincerely grateful for the memories.

PHILIPPINE CHORALE GROUPS WIN AWARDS AT THE 12TH WORLD CHOIR GAMES IN GANGNEUNG CITY, SOUTH KOREA
필리핀 합창 그룹, 2023 강릉세계합창대회 다수 수상

20 July 2023, Gangneung, South Korea – After a one-year delay, the 12th World Choir Games (WCG) returned to Korea in 2023 and were held from 3 July to 13 July 2023 at the Gangneung Arena in Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, South Korea.

Highest awards were garnered by the Ilocos Norte based choir, the Samiweng Singers of the Ilocos Norte National High School, winner of Diploma Gold IV in Category 4 - Mixed Youth Choirs and winner of Diploma Gold V in Category 19 - Musica Contemporanea Mixed Voices. The conductor of the Samiweng Singers is Sherween Cabrales.

The Northwestern University – Saguday Chorale of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte also won the highest award Diploma Gold I in Category 15 – Musica Sacra a ca****la. They also received a Diploma Gold IV in Category 26 – Folklore a ca****la.

Saguday Chorale is the official student choir of the Northwestern University composed of 28 singers who represented the university and country. The choir’s conductor, Sherberk Cabrales, said that he was “humbled and honored” by the wins.

The Quezon City Performing Arts Development Foundation, Inc. Concert Chorus (QC PADFI) received two (2) awards, the Diploma Gold III in Category 4 – Mixed Youth Choirs and the Diploma Gold III in Category 19 – Musica Contemporanea Mixed Voices. The conductor of QC PADFI is Nicanor Castro Infante.

The QC PADFI also performed at the Korean-Philippine Friendship Concert together with the Goyang Civic Choir Children’s Choir and the Goyang Civic Choir at the Oulim Theater in Goyang City and at the Philippine Embassy in Seoul.

The Anima Christi Chorale of Lucena City, received two (2) awards, the Diploma Gold I in Category 15 – Musica Sacra a ca****la and the Diploma Gold IV in Category 26 - Folklore A Capella.

The ACC was led by Choirmaster Joel A. Boragay.

The Capiz State University Main Chorale (CMC) received two (2) awards, the Diploma Silver VII in Category 5 – University and College Choirs and the Diploma Gold IV in Category 26 – Folklore a ca****la.

CMC Advisor & Associate Professor Vivian Apuang said “It is indescribable, overwhelming and heartwarming to receive the award on a world stage, representing our university and the country,” John Michael Lauron and Vivian Apuang are the conductors of CMC.

The WCG, or the Olympics of Choir, is the largest global choir festival and competition, with over 25,000 singers from 308 participating groups, from 70 countries who competed, was held from 3 July to 13 July 2023 in Gangneung City, Gangwon province, South Korea. END

The Chorale made a surprise appearance at the Kindergarten after the Category 026 performance. Our beloved tour guide, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗞𝗶𝗺, the CEO and the Director of the School, led the way and the kids from each of their grade level interacted and came to watch the CMC.

Mamayog Akun is based on a traditional courting song from Mindanao and is typical of Muslim folk music. These types of songs, like the traditional chants and dances, are characterized by vivid colors, rhythmic sounds, and movements, and reflect the influence of Arabian and Indo-Malaysian cultures.

Pasigin is a fish net used by the Capiznon. In the hands of a skilled fishermen, a pasigin assures food for the family. The playful imagination of the Filipinos created the pasigin. Feelings of excitement where a fishermen scoops after schools of fish, swishing, swashing, scooping, and sifting gave the pasigin that chase and run character.

“𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒏”
𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝘆: 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀

Danggayan means "𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝." From the rootword "𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐚𝐲" which means "𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞." Found along the foothills of Ilocos Sur, stretching to the southern part of La Union, the Bago Tribe is the result of inter-marriages among highland tribes to Ilocano lineage. They have evolved to process characteristics and way of life, similar yet unique, in comparison to their upland counterparts. In this composition, the chants used are sung during the Danggayan celebration, which is multi-purpose. The composer recalled childhood memories of seeing children of the tribe playing under the trees at the dawn of a wedding feast. Music for the tribe is participatory in nature and reflect their love for natural forces. Scooping and improvising rhythmic patterns spontaneously is allowed to signify the importance of natural flow. The presence of bird sounds is an important element in this composition since for the Bago Tribe, the presence of birds during a ceremony is a sign of good fortune.
