MALIGAYANG IKA-128 NA ARAW NG KALAYAAN!

PAGPUPUGAY SA MGA BAYANI NG KAHAPON, INSPIRASYON NG KASALUKUYAN, AT PAG-ASA NG KINABUKASAN.

As per Proclamation No. 1006, June 12, 2026, is declared a Regular Holiday to commemorate the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. The holiday is often also known as β€œAraw ng Kasarinlan” or β€œAraw ng Kalayaan”. Philippine Independence Day is celebrated on June 12, marking the date in 1898 when Emilio Aguinaldo declared the islands' independence from Spanish colonial rule. The Philippines experienced centuries of foreign domination, first under Spanish control beginning in 1564 and later under American rule after the Spanish-American War in 1898. The path to independence involved a series of uprisings and revolutions fueled by a growing nationalistic sentiment among Filipinos.

The day commemorates the culmination of these struggles, particularly the significant role of Filipino leaders and movements in advocating for autonomy and self-governance. Although the United States assumed control following the war, with promises of future independence, it was not until July 4, 1946, that full sovereignty was granted. Initially, the Philippines celebrated Independence Day on July 4, in alignment with the United States, but in 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal officially moved the observance back to June 12, in 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal issued Proclamation No. 28, s. 1962, which effectively moved the date of Philippine independence from July 4 to June 12. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the country's historical journey toward self-determination and national identity.

For 333 years, the Philippine Islands were colonized by the Spanish Empire from 1565 to 1898. Ferdinand Magellan established the first documented record of European contact with the Philippines in 1521 during his circumnavigation expedition, which ended in his death at the Battle of Mactan.Forty-four years later, a Spanish expedition commanded by Miguel LΓ³pez de Legazpi left modern Mexico to begin the conquest of the Philippines. Legazpi’s expedition arrived in the Philippines in 1565, under the reign of Philip II of Spain, whose name has remained associated with the nation.

The Philippine colony was ruled by Spaniards under Spanish laws. Jose Rizal was the most prominent representative of the moderate opposition to Spanish authority in the Philippines, who advocated political reforms of The Philippines under Spain. In 1892, the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary movement, was established in Manila, the Philippine capital on the island of Luzon. Membership expanded quickly, and in August 1896, the Spanish discovered the Katipunanβ€˜s intentions for the rebellion, causing the rebels to take premature action. Revolts broke out across Luzon, and in March 1897, 28-year-old Emilio Aguinaldo took command of the rebellion.
By late 1897, Aguinaldo was exiled in Hong Kong. From there, Aguinaldo made arrangements with U.S. authorities to return to the Philippines and assist the United States in the war against Spain. He landed on May 19, rallied his revolutionaries, and began liberating towns south of Manila. On June 12, 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed Philippine independence and established a provincial government, of which he subsequently became head.
Maligayang Araw ng Kasarinlan! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

This morning, PMRMIS-SPED successfully conducted its Earthquake Drill as part of the school's continuing commitment to disaster preparedness and the safety of every learner, teacher, and personnel.

The activity provided everyone with the opportunity to practice the proper response during an earthquake by observing the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" procedure, followed by an orderly and calm evacuation to the designated safe areas. Through this exercise, participants reinforced the importance of remaining alert, disciplined, and prepared in times of emergencies.

Regular earthquake drills are essential in building a culture of resilience and readiness. They equip our school community with the knowledge and confidence needed to respond effectively, helping minimize risks and protect lives when real disasters occur.

PMRMIS-SPED extends its appreciation to all teachers, staff, learners, and partners who actively participated and ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the drill. Together, we continue to promote a safer and more disaster-resilient learning environment.

Empowering learners through knowledge and protection

President Manuel A. Roxas Memorial Integrated School–SPED through its DepEd Youth Formation- Pres. Manuel A. Roxas Memorial Integrated Sch -SPED successfully conducted a meaningful symposium on the Importance of Sexuality and Reproductive Health facilitated by Ma’am Eireen Gaje, RN, where learners gained valuable insights on making informed and responsible decisions, promoting healthy relationships, and understanding the importance of self-care and respect.

Complementing this learning session was an informative discussion on the Child Protection Policy, led by Ma’am Virginia A. Alaban, which emphasized every learner’s right to a safe, secure, and nurturing educational environment. The session reinforced the shared responsibility of the school community in safeguarding children from all forms of abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, and bullying.

The symposium served as a vital platform to educate, empower, and inspire our learners to become responsible, informed, and respectful individuals while strengthening our commitment to child protection and holistic development.

ADVANCING QUALITY, PARTNERSHIP, AND EXCELLENCE IN SY 2026–2027

Warm greetings to all our learners, teachers, school heads, parents, partners, stakeholders, and the entire DepEd Region VI family as we embark on the Opening of School Year 2026–2027.

Today marks another significant milestone in our collective journey toward delivering improved basic education across the region. As we open our doors to a new academic year, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and relevance of basic education services for every learner under our care.

In DepEd Region VI, we place utmost priority on the assurance of quality basic education. This means strengthening our teaching and learning processes, ensuring the adequacy of instructional resources, and continuously building the capabilities of our educators. We recognize that quality education is not merely about access, but also about meaningful learning experiences that equip our learners with the competencies they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

We also highlight the vital role of collaboration. The success of our schools does not rest on the Department alone; it is a shared responsibility. Thus, we will continue to actively tap and expand our partnerships with local government units, private sector organizations, non-government organizations, and community stakeholders. Together, we can provide more opportunities, resources, and support systems that will ultimately benefit our schools and learners.

As we implement the Three-Term School Calendar, we are committed to ensuring its smooth and effective rollout. This structure is designed to provide a balanced distribution of learning time, allowing learners to better attain the required competencies while also considering their well-being. Through careful planning and coordinated efforts, we aim to maximize instructional time and improve learning outcomes throughout the school year.

As we begin this new school year, let us remain steadfast in our shared vision of providing every Filipino learner with quality, inclusive, and accessible education.

DepEd Region VI will not rest on its laurels. Rather, we will continue to find more ways to ensure that no child will be left behind, to provide conducive learning spaces, to deliver improved quality of basic education, and to guarantee that every Champion learner is afforded the education that he or she truly deserves from their Department of Education.

Thank you, and may we all have a productive and meaningful School Year 2026–2027.

CRISTITO A. ECO, CESO III
Regional Director
