A. Aspiring writers: pen paper, correction tape
B. Aspiring photojournalists: camera, pen, paper, correction tape
C. Aspiring cartoonists: pencil, eraser, ruler, short bond paper, drawing pad (if available)
D. Aspiring layout artists: laptop

ALTERNATIVE WORK ARRANGEMENTS FOR GOVERNMENT OFFICES, ALTERNATIVE LEARNING MODES FOR SCHOOLS ON AUGUST 20

Pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 131, government offices are directed to implement appropriate alternative work arrangements in the National Capital Region and the following provinces on August 20, 2026:

📍 National Capital Region (NCR)
📍 Abra
📍 Benguet
📍 Ilocos Norte
📍 Ilocos Sur
📍 La Union
📍 Pangasinan
📍 Bataan
📍 Bulacan
📍 Nueva Ecija
📍 Pampanga
📍 Tarlac
📍 Zambales
📍 Batangas
📍 Cavite
📍 Laguna
📍 Rizal
📍 Occidental Mindoro

Unless otherwise directed by their respective Local Chief Executives, alternative learning modes for classes and learning continuity measures at all levels in public and private schools shall be implemented in the aforementioned areas.

Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital services shall continue their operations and render the necessary services.

Contract of Service (COS) and Job Order (JO) workers placed under alternative work arrangements shall be paid their corresponding wages or salaries, subject to applicable rules and regulations.

The suspension of work or adoption of alternative work arrangements in the private sector shall be left to the discretion of management.

Obiena shakes off early stumbles, clears 5.83m in Jockgrim for 7th gold of the year

JOCKGRIM, Germany — A rocky start couldn’t stop Obiena vaulting to another gold.

The Filipino pole vault maestro soared past the 5.83-meter bar on his initial attempt at the 30th International Pole Vault Meeting on Wednesday, August 5, capturing his seventh gold medal of the 2026 outdoor campaign.

Starting his vault progression with minor mechanical hiccups, Ernest John “EJ” Uy Obiena, made swift adjustments on the runway to reset his rhythm, executing a clean release on his winning attempt to distance himself from the competition field.

"Was far from smooth competition and some struggles during warm up and earlier bars, but happy to scrape an '80 bar," Obiena expressed in a Facebook post shortly after the victory. “We continue to work, and now a few trainings in before we go again."

The victory in Jockgrim builds directly on his momentum from the 1st International Pole Vault Meeting in Germany just days prior.

There, Obiena dominated a 10-man field with a first-try clearance at 5.76 meters before making three valiant attempts at the 5.90-meter mark.

With two consecutive German titles in the bag, Obiena now turns his sight toward defending his crown at the 20th Asian Games set this September in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
