Pres. Catajay-Mani welcomes students, faculty, and staff back to campus

Romblon State University President Merian P. Catajay-Mani delivered a warm message of welcome to students, faculty, and staff as RSU opened the new academic year, focusing on renewed dedication, unity, and service.

In her welcome-back address, Pres. Catajay-Mani announced that preparations are now underway for the accreditation of several academic programs, and she rallied the entire RSU community to extend full support to ensure the University’s success throughout the accreditation process.

Expressing hope that everyone enjoyed a restful break, the President also acknowledged the offices and personnel who continued reporting for duty during the vacation period, thanking them for their steadfast commitment to the University.

Drawing inspiration from William Butler Yeats, who said that “education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire,” Pres. Catajay-Mani challenged the faculty to ignite that fire among their students.

She urged the community to welcome the returning students with a smile and with warmth, so that they may feel a genuine sense of belonging in the bigger RSU family.

“Thank you for your dedication last year, and we expect a better and deeper commitment to your work this year,” she said. “Because of you, students from across the island gain quality education, skills, and hope for a better future.”

Invoking the wisdom of Helen Keller — “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” — the President called on every member of the University to lend a hand and help one another for the betterment of the institution.

She likewise echoed Henry Adams’ reminder that a teacher affects eternity and can never tell where their influence stops, encouraging everyone to begin that influence anew as classes resume.

Pres. Catajay-Mani reminded the community to strive for progress rather than perfection, noting that excellence begins when everyone does their job well and right, and encouraged personnel to seek help whenever needed from colleagues, deans, or the administration.

Closing her message, the President urged everyone to share their smiles as generously as they render their service, always willing to serve with honor and excellence.
