Trivia: While this day is commonly referred to as Black Saturday in the Philippines and some other traditions, it is officially called โ€œHoly Saturdayโ€ or โ€œEaster Eveโ€ in the Catholic liturgical calendar and is also known in various traditions as โ€œWhite Saturday,โ€ โ€œLow Saturday,โ€ or the โ€œGreat Sabbath.โ€ Traditionally, no Mass is celebrated and no Communion is distributed during the day, except for the dying. In Filipino culture, it is sometimes called Sรกbado de Gloria (โ€œSaturday of Gloryโ€) because of the Easter Vigil held in the evening, where the Gloria is sung for the first time since Maundy Thursday. Although the day is marked by silence and reflection, it concludes with the Easter Vigil, considered the most important service of the year, symbolizing the transition from darkness to light. Additionally, some Christian traditions believe that on this day, Christ descended into hell to free the souls of the righteous who died before his resurrection.
