On November 27, Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina Roque asserted that โฑ500 was enough to prepare a complete Noche Buena for a family of four. The question is: Are we even talking about the same Noche Buena? Do these higher-ups speak of a holiday banquet meant to radiate the Christmas spirit, or are they confusing it with a simple, everyday meal?

Learners from the Grade 9 and 10 Secondary Special Science Program secured second and third place in the secondary level of the 2025 Students' Research Congress held at San Jose Litex Senior High School on December 1.
Grade 10 Sampaguita students Aivy Mercado, Janela Kim Caduyac, and Jann Mica Poso earned second place with their study Neutralizing Pet Urine Odors Using Enzyme-Based Cleaner Extracted from Kamias (Averrhoa bilimbi) and Coffee Grounds (Coffea arabica).
โDuring the event, kaba talaga ang pinaka kalaban namin pero thanks to the support of our family, friends, classmates, peers, and our coach Ma'am Dino, we couldn't have done it without them,โ Caduyac shared.
Their research examined a low-cost alternative to enzyme-based cleaners using kamias for its acidic, stain-breaking properties and coffee grounds for their odor-absorbing capacity.
Their leader Mercado added, โI gained valuable experience in conducting thorough research, organizing and analyzing data, and presenting results effectively and of course natutunan ko rin talaga yung importance ng teamwork and communication.โ
While Grade 9 Agila students Eden Shanne Matias, Michaela Ace Arguelles, and Kei Zyrille Lagda earned third place with their research titled Caffeine Chronicles: Exploring the Potential of Eco-Conscious Writing as an Alternative Ballpen Ink Using Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spectabilis), Coffee (Coffea genus), Coal, Glycerin (Propane-1,2,3-triol), Vinegar (Acetic acid), and Gum Arabic (Acacia senegal).
โWe didnโt expect it, but it motivated us to continue improving, and we thank our coach, Maโam Gina C. Galapon, and our families for their support,โ Matias stated.
Their study explored a ballpen ink formulation using bougainvillea, coal, coffee, glycerin, vinegar, and gum arabic while maintaining the function of standard ink.
โWe learned a lot from joining the Research Congress, especially patience, teamwork, and confidence in presenting our study, and the experience supported our development as researchers,โ Matias added.
San Jose Litex Senior High School earned first and fourth place, while San Jose National High School secured another fifth-place finish in the secondary level.
The Research Congress also featured the elementary level, with Eulogio Rodriguez Jr. Elementary School placing first; San Isidro Elementary School placing second and fourth; San Jose Elementary School placing third; and Kasiglahan Elementary School placing fifth.

Two alumni of Tagumpay National High Schoolโs Girl Scouts, Porsche Miel Testa and Samanta Jade Palmes, were conferred the Chief Girl Scout Medal during the awarding ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on November 27.
The Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme (CGSMS) is the highest recognition granted to Girl Scouts who have completed a year-long community service project and have at least three years of active scouting experience.
"It was not easy, but I pushed through because I truly wanted to make a difference, even in small ways," Testa said.
Testa shared that after a year of serving the youth, her biggest challenge was balancing the Scheme and school at the same time.
Palmes likewise reflected on her experience, noting that the process helped her gain confidence and a deeper understanding of service.
โCompleting this project taught me that real change takes patience, courage, and heart, and that is exactly what being a Girl Scout is all about,โ she stated.
Both awardees credited the guidance of their troop leader, Maโam Arlyn B. Boton, who supported them throughout their CGSMS journey.

TNHS Girls scouts Jann Mica M. Poso and Angelica Aleeza S. Pangilinan attained the highest achievement of a girl scout, at the Plenary Hall, PICC, Pasay City, yesterday.
Over 967 Chief Girl Scout medal awardees together with their troop leader, families, and friends attended the culminating program to recognize the girl scouts who excelled.
Out of these scouts, Two are from Tagumpay National High School; Poso and Pangilinan.
Pangilinan stated that in getting this award she faced financial problems as her project cost a lot of money but with the help of her parents and troop leader ma'am Krista Jule U. Banton.
"I kept motivated because of course, I can't back out now since I have come this far and the progress will be lost if I have not continued" Pangilinan added.
Poso also shared that during the conduct of her project, she experienced sleepless nights working and soliciting money to teach and feed over 30 kids together with her troop leader ma'am Donaliza L. Navarro and her member, Althea Del Pilar.
"Seeing the smiles of kids every time they see me in their community and every time i conduct my program really helped me to keep going that is why this medal or this award is not just mine, it belongs to all of the people who helped me, trusted me, and believed in me." she stated.
Despite the challenges encountered, both Poso and Pangilinan secured their spot as chief medalists of the Central Luzon region in Rizal council.

The moment she saw her name on the list, it felt like standing beneath the sky. For her, it was as if the moon had finally landed on her handโsudden, glowing and wonderfully unreal. In that instant, all the late nights, moments of doubt and whispered prayers were finally worth it.
The thought that her position might soon be phased out became her motivation to dream bigger and prepare for the next step. Mrs. Rowena P. Bautista, Head Teacher II, set her sights on the National Assessment for School Heads (NASH), a milestone that opened new doors for her to lead, inspire and leave a lasting mark in education.
Reaching that goal was far from simple. Each day demanded patience, determination and courage.
โBalancing work, family and review sessions was never easy. There were sleepless nights and moments of doubt, but my faith in God and my desire to grow kept me going,โ she said. Each small success reinforced her resolve. Step by step, she advanced closer to achieving her goal.
โPassing the NASH exam felt like reaching for the moonโa dream once out of reach that became possible through hard work and faith,โ she expressed. The accomplishment shone brightly, a reward for the perseverance that had carried her through.
It revealed a truth she had always heldโno dream is too high when you believe, stay determined, and keep your passion burning. It stands as proof that faith and hard work can turn the impossible into reality. And she knew this milestone was just the beginning of an even more promising journey ahead.

The Grade Level Conference highlighted the introduction of the new Senior High School (SHS) curriculum through a career talk titled โExamining Destinations in SHSโ delivered by Dr. Dennis Niรฑo Ancheta, discussing the updates and opportunities that await students entering SHS.
Dr. Ancheta shared that this batch will be the first to experience the new SHS curriculum, which focuses on developing middle skills and providing learners with more practical options after graduation.
โBasta 18 ka, tapos ka na ng SHS, puwede ka na magtrabaho,โ said Dr. Ancheta, emphasizing that SHS offers three possible paths for students โ trabaho, negosyo, o kolehiyo.
Senior High School, which began in 2014 and was officially implemented in 2016, serves as the last two years of the Kโ12 program, covering Grades 11 and 12.
Students take both core subjects and specialized lessons depending on their chosen track.
In the previous curriculum, there were four SHS tracks: Academic, Technical-Vocational, Sports, and Arts and Design.
Under the new setup, these are streamlined into two major tracks โ Academic and Technical Professional (TechPro) โ to simplify pathways and improve employability.
The new SHS curriculum introduces updated core subjects such as Effective Communication, Life Skills, General Mathematics, General Science, and Araling Panlipunan (Pag-aaral sa Kasaysayang Panlipunan).
Dr. Ancheta explained that their track already includes Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-equivalent skills and certifications.
โKung TechPro kayo, di na need mag-enroll sa TESDA, kasi kung anong gusto niyo sa TESDA, nasa TechPro na,โ he said.
Ancheta also discussed the Voucher Program, which supports public school completers who plan to study in private SHS institutions.
The government will shoulder โฑ17,500 per year for tuition, although some private schools may require additional top-up fees.
He also announced that allocations for SHS private schools are set to begin next week.
Dr. Ancheta concluded his talk with an inspiring reminder for students: โIf you want to become successful, wag muna puro sarap. A goal without a plan is just really a wish.โ

Ellsworth Francis T. Roldan from 9-Agila earned a bronze medal in the Provincial Meet Chess Tournament held from October 25 to 29 at San Mateo Senior High School.
Representing Tagumpay National High School and the municipality of Montalban in the secondary boysโ division, Roldan displayed focus and tactical skill as he competed in nine rounds each of blitz and standard chess throughout the five-day event, which brought together top players from across the province.
Earlier in the Municipal Meet, Roldan also secured a bronze medal in the individual category and helped his team win gold, which qualified him for the provincial level.
โI felt relieved that I managed to get bronze, but I feel a bit disappointed knowing I couldโve done better,โ Roldan shared.
โDuring my training and preparation, I really worked on eliminating my bad habits. I think it paid off because I noticed some of my opponents making similar mistakes, which I used to my advantage.โ
Roldanโs bronze finish added to Montalbanโs medal tally in the 2025 Provincial Meet.
