OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF CONCERN AND SUPPORT FOR OUR TEACHERS
The School Parent-Teacher Association of Burgos National High School–Sorrento Extension expresses its deep concern regarding the reported statement of Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro:
“MISMO ANG IBANG MGA G**O AY LUMALABAG SA GANITONG KLASE NG MORALIDAD... SILA MINSAN AY NAGTUTURO SA KANILANG MGA ESTUDYANTE KUNG PAPAANO MAGING WALANG MODO” - USEC CLAIRE CASTRO
We recognize that the statement referred to “some teachers” and not to the entire teaching profession. Nevertheless, remarks of this nature, especially when made by a high-ranking public official, must be expressed with sufficient context, supporting facts, and appropriate sensitivity. Without these, they may unfairly cast doubt on the integrity of many educators who faithfully serve their students and communities.
We do not claim that teachers are incapable of making mistakes. Like all professionals, teachers must be accountable when misconduct is established through evidence and due process. However, isolated incidents should not be used to create an impression that educators generally teach disrespectful or immoral behavior.
As parents, we have witnessed the commitment of the teachers of DepEd Burgos National High School - Sorrento Extension Montalban in developing not only the academic abilities of our children but also their discipline, character, respect, and sense of responsibility.
We respectfully call on Undersecretary Castro to clarify the basis and intended scope of her statement. Public discourse concerning our teachers should promote accountability without diminishing the dignity of the teaching profession.
We stand with our teachers while continuing to uphold accountability, professionalism, respectful dialogue, and the best interests of every learner.
