UINHS Moves Toward a More Integrated Approach to School Management

As part of its continuing efforts to embrace technology and improve school management processes, UINHS is taking another step forward with the development of the UINHS-Integrated School Management System (UINHS-ISMS).

Formerly known as the UINHS Attendance Monitoring System, the platform was initially developed to streamline and improve the monitoring of student attendance. As the needs of the school community continue to evolve, the system has likewise expanded beyond its original purpose.

The new UINHS-ISMS integrates several functions designed to support different areas of school operations, including:

1. Student Attendance Monitoring
2. Teaching and Non-Teaching Personnel Attendance Monitoring
3. Personnel Chatroom and Communication
4. Guidance Management System
5. Learner Profiles and At-Risk Watchlist
6. Cases and Guidance Sessions
7. Referrals and Referral Contacts
8. Guidance Programs and Activities
9. Reports and other management features

The development of the Guidance Management component was made possible with the presence of our school's Guidance Associate, Ms. Merry Orozco Corpuz, providing an opportunity to further align the system with the school's guidance and learner-support processes.

This initiative is made possible in part through the strong support and encouragement of our School Principal IV, Dr. Emerson Portales , whose leadership continues to foster a culture of innovation and technology integration at UINHS. His openness to new ideas and support for the development of meaningful projects help encourage initiatives that seek to improve school processes and contribute to the welfare of our learners and the entire school community.

The development of UINHS-ISMS reflects our continuing commitment to using technology not simply for automation, but as a means of strengthening school processes, improving access to information, and supporting better services for our learners, teachers, and personnel.

Together, let us continue building a more organized, responsive, and technology-enabled school.

The Ungos Integrated National High School (UINHS) Senior Scouts Institutional Investiture Ceremony was successfully held on September 26, 2026, in the afternoon at the UINHS Covered Court, with the theme “Service, Innovation and Scouting for All.” The ceremony marked an important milestone in the scouting journey of the Senior Scouts as they formally affirmed their commitment to the principles, ideals, and values of the Scouting Movement.

The activity was participated in by 45 Senior Scouts and 4 Scouters, who actively took part in the different activities and ceremonies prepared for the occasion. The program featured meaningful scouting traditions, including the recitation of the Scout Law, candle-lighting ceremony, investiture rites, and donning of the scout neckerchief, symbolizing the scouts’ commitment to service, responsibility, leadership, and brotherhood.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) Ireen Aveno, Councilor Darius Castro, Ms. Mirriam Sta. Maria, and Mr. Emmanuel Amoin. Their presence and support added significance to the celebration and inspired the scouts to continue developing themselves as responsible and service-oriented young leaders.

The event also featured Erin Rodge Garcia, a Scouter from the Laguna Council, as the Guest Speaker. The message emphasized the importance of living the Scout Law, serving others, embracing innovation, and making Scouting inclusive and meaningful for everyone. The inspiring message encouraged the scouts to become active contributors to their school, community, and society.

The Institutional Investiture Ceremony served not only as a formal recognition of the scouts but also as a reminder of their responsibilities as members of the Scouting Movement. It strengthened their commitment to the ideals of service, leadership, discipline, teamwork, and continuous personal development.

The successful conduct of the activity was made possible through the cooperation and support of the school administration, Scouters, scouts, parents, guests, and other stakeholders. The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm among the UINHS Senior Scouts to uphold the spirit of Scouting and live by the theme “Service, Innovation and Scouting for All.”

A meaningful and thought-provoking leadership discussion was recently led and facilitated by our School Principal, Dr. Emerson Portales, Secondary School Principal IV, together with the Master Teachers and Head Teachers of UINHS.

The discussion centered on leadership, responsibility, professionalism, and the importance of making a meaningful difference in our school.

Here are some of the key takeaways from Dr. Portales' message:

1. Promotion comes with a purpose.
Being appointed or promoted as a Master Teacher or Head Teacher is not simply about holding a higher position. It comes with greater responsibility and the expectation that we can make a difference in our school.

A question worth asking ourselves is:

Can I make a difference in my school?

2. Know our roles as MTs and HTs.
While both positions contribute to school leadership, their primary responsibilities differ.

Master Teachers are primarily focused on instructional leadership, mentoring, and supporting teachers in improving instruction.

Head Teachers are more involved in leading and managing people, programs, and school operations.

Different roles, but one common purpose: to help move the school forward.

3. Leadership is different from management.
Management may involve resources, finances, schedules, programs, and other school operations.

Leadership, on the other hand, is about people —guiding them, supporting them, influencing them, and helping them grow.

Both are important, and effective school leadership requires both.

4. Lead with a heart❤️.
Leadership is not simply about implementing rules. It is also about understanding the people we lead.

When a teacher is dealing with illness or a family concern, compassion matters. At the same time, compassion must be balanced with responsibility, accountability, and the needs of our learners.

5. Be an example.
As MTs and HTs, we are being observed —not only because of our positions, but because of how we act every day.

A powerful question raised during the discussion was:

"Why should they follow you?"

The answer begins with our own actions.

6. Credibility is the foundation.
One of the strongest reminders from Dr. Portales was the importance of credibility.

Our credibility is built through our everyday actions, decisions, professionalism, consistency, and integrity.

As educational leaders, our actions speak not only about ourselves but also about the institution we represent.

7. Be mindful of our social media presence.
Social media is part of our personal lives. However, when we post about our school, colleagues, learners, or school-related matters, our posts can also affect how people perceive us as educators.

We should always ask ourselves:

"Does what I post reflect the values and professionalism I want to represent?”

Personal expression and professional responsibility can coexist, but we must always be mindful of the possible impact of our actions.

8. Know where you are going —and how you will get there.
Leadership requires direction.

We should continually ask ourselves:

“Where are we going, and how do we get there?”

Our present positions can also serve as preparation for greater responsibilities in the future.

A SIMPLE REMINDER

As emphasized by Dr. Emerson Portales, being an MT or HT is not simply about the title attached to our names.

It is about the responsibility attached to the position.

It is about making a difference.

It is about leading people with both competence and compassion.

It is about being an example.

And above all, it is about protecting the trust, credibility, and reputation entrusted to us as educators.

Lead with purpose.
Lead with integrity.
Lead with a heart. ❤️

Thank you, Dr. Emerson Portales, for the meaningful reminders and reflections on what it truly means to lead and serve in our school.
