LOOK: BVE III-12 takes part in the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Earthquake Drill

In a steadfast commitment to promoting safety and preparedness, the Philippine Normal University (PNU) actively participated in the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) held today, June 28, 2024. The quarterly NSED is an initiative of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defense.

At exactly 2:00 PM, students, faculty, and administrative employees performed the safety procedure “duck, cover, and hold” to simulate the response to the early phase of an earthquake. Upon instructions from safety marshals, those inside offices and classrooms proceeded to the evacuation area as part of the mass evacuation and clearing protocols.

The PNU Disaster Risk Reduction Management Committee reported that the entire evacuation scenario, which involved an estimated 1,800 participants, including those in the HRD side of the campus, was completed in the swift time of 4 minutes. After the drill, the public address (PA) system of the university was used to convey gratitude to the PNU community for their participation in the activity.

This proactive engagement underscores PNU's dedication to fostering a culture of disaster resilience among its students, faculty, and staff, ensuring that the entire university community is well-equipped to respond effectively in the event of an earthquake.
