PUPQC BSIT Students: Champions at the AWS Cloud Club Solar Power Hackathon 2025, Elevating PUP's Tech Reputation

Students from the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Quezon City Campus (PUPQC), proudly emerged as "CHAMPIONS" in the recently held Solar Power Hackathon 2025. This innovative competition, organized by the AWS Cloud Club, a leading player in cloud services, gathered 22 participants from various PUP campuses. The event focused on collaborative efforts to design software and system solutions that address pressing challenges in sustainability, efficiency, and scalability. Participants also engaged in training sessions and mentorship programs, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in AWS cloud integration and modern software development practices.

Representing PUPQC, Team Flarebend showcased their award-winning prototype, PUP Greenhouseโ€”a platform aimed at empowering PUP communities to donate, reuse, and recycle materials, thereby effectively reducing waste through active community engagement. The team was composed of SRG Members and BSIT 4-1 students. Jamie Jones Cera led the team along with Franco Luis Rosel, Levi Matudan, and Daniel Del Rosario. Their innovative project and collaborative spirit earned them the championship title in what was their very first hackathon experience.

Reflecting on their success, the team noted that beyond the victory, the hackathon instilled in them the importance of rapid prototyping, teamwork under pressure, and the application of cloud-based tools to tackle real-world challenges. They emphasized that the knowledge and exposure gained during this event have significantly contributed to their development as innovators and future leaders in the tech community, a source of pride for the entire PUPQC community.
