HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
The Tandang Sora Elementary School formerly known as Banlat Elementary School was organized by a group of Civic-minded citizens headed by Mr. Benito Ramos, the late father of Dr. Remedios Abarry, retired Division Supervisor in HEKASI, sometimes in 1970’s in the Division of City Schools, Quezon City. The open space of Galler Heights Subdivision with the total land area of TWO
THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED and THIRTY – TWO (2,632) square meters was used as the school site. NETHERSCOTT and DR. REMEDIOS ABARRY the site was donated to the City Government of Quezon City through the Deed of Donation where the legal ownership was formalized and in 1974 when the school got its name Banlat Elementary School. However, in 1995 the school was renamed Tandang Sora Elementary School in honor of the great Melchora Aquino, a native and resident of this place. Through the years the school made its name towards academic excellence bringing home the bacon in the field of Science, English, and Mathematics. This was through the cooperative and concerted efforts of the department heads, master teachers and seventy two (72) strong and dedicated teachers with the leadership of the school head. All of them contributed in one way or another in producing quality graduates in the Elementary curriculum. As the school continues to work on the holistic growth of the child, it trains and develops children with the love and interest in music and dancing. Actually, for the last seven years from SY 2002-2003 – 2009-2010 it remains undefeated in music and Rondalla, Drum and lyre and other competition through the expertise of Mrs. Judith Caluya and other teachers helping hand to bring certificate and medals in the school, this Division. The sound and well-balance management of its current school head, FERLINDA B. RIGO, the school was chosen as one of the pilot schools of the division on the LEAP Program sponsored by the ATENEO De Manila, the Division of City schools, Quezon City, the National Institute of Education, The TEMASEK Foundation both based in Singapore. The program will soon be implemented in SY 2008-2009 and hope to be in three (3) years time aimed at improving quality of education specifically at Tandang Sora Elementary School and in Quezon City in general. The realization of a pilot school dream is on the hands of the seventy – nine (79) strong and motivated teachers of this school under the pragmatic and progressive leadership of FERLINDA B. RIGO, the present school administrators in the past from 1975 to present are the following, who provided their expertise in the present status of the school now. They are:
