ENFORCED DISAPPEARANCE: A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY

Defined under Republic Act No. 10353, enforced disappearance is the arrest, detention, or abduction of individuals by state agents or groups acting with official consent — followed by a refusal to acknowledge their whereabouts, placing them beyond legal protection.

Farmer activist Jonas Burgos suffered this kind of abduction in 2007 that pushed his brother, Director JL Burgos, to uncover the truths behind his enforced disappearance through the documentary film Alipato at Muog. Catch the film this April 8 at NCAS Auditorium, UPLB and join us in remembering the victims of this culture of impunity and standing together against injustice.
