In a world where almost everything is designed to be faster, smoother, and easier, it’s no surprise that learning is following the same path.
What happens when learning becomes too easy—too "frictionless?"
The ability to grapple with ideas, work through uncertainty, and build understanding may begin to diminish. Over time, this affects how prepared learners are for realities beyond the classroom.
But, what if education rewarded struggle as much as achievement?
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this question. Head to the comments section below to share what you think this future might look like.

LOOK: BS LEARN students stepped into the future during a Futures Design Lab on March 11 as part of their Social Emotional Learning course.
Students practiced signals scanning, identifying the forces of change in education they believe carry the highest impact and greatest uncertainty.
To bring these futures to life, they ended the session by completing a Teacher Feature profile, imagining what teaching might look like in a world where their chosen forces of change have fully shaped the education landscape.

LOOK: On March 4–5, 2026, the Ateneo Research Institute for the Futures of Education (RIFE) convened a two-day foresight-to-policy workshop on building heat resilience in Filipino schools at the Learning Design Hive, Ateneo de Manila University.
Facilitated by RIFE Non-Resident Fellow and Strategic Foresight practitioner James Balzer, the workshop brought together representatives from the Department of Education, including the Bureau of Learning Delivery (BLD), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS), Education Futures Office (EFO), and Policy and Planning Service (PPS).
Participants also included representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), and the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd).
During the workshop, participants engaged in futures methodologies such as horizon scanning, stakeholder power mapping, Causal Layered Analysis, and the Three Horizons framework to explore the institutional, political, and systemic barriers shaping how schools respond to rising temperatures.
The workshop aimed to identify pathways toward a durable policy mix for long-term heat resilience in Philippine schools.

AI is steadily entering classrooms, helping teachers draft lesson plans, create materials, and even write student evaluations. Framed as empowerment, these tools promise relief in a system where teachers are already stretched thin.
But when efficiency becomes the measure of progress, what might quietly be lost? As AI grows more capable of facilitating learning, providing personal feedback and engaging with students’ learning needs, the question is no longer whether it will reshape the teaching profession, but how.
What if in the future, AI takes the lead in learning delivery while human educators are asked to step aside?
We want to hear your take. What do you think this future might look like? Head to the last card and share your thoughts in the comments.

Teachers are at the heart of learning outcomes across all levels of education. Strengthening their professional development will ensure their effectiveness, relevance and resilience in the face of challenge and change.
Under EDCOM 2 - The Second Congressional Commission on Education’s focus on Teacher Education, Dr Marilyn Balagtas (PNU), Dr Brando Palomar (PNU), Dr Rosalyn Mirasol (UST), and Dr. Gerry de Cadiz (EVSU) examined key priorities for strengthening the teaching profession. These include improving alignment among CHED, PRC, and DepEd including the Teacher Education Council, addressing gaps in pre-service training, encouraging more students to enter the profession, and strengthening the training and development of teachers and school heads.

Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door.
For many Filipino children, especially those left behind by migrant parents, learning is shaped by what happens at home, in school, and in the spaces in between. Genejane M Adarlo, MD, PhD and Michelle Pia D Eustaquio, MD look at how stronger home-school environments and shared responsibility among families, schools, and communities can better support these learners.

Early learning can only be as strong as the systems that support it.
Under EDCOM 2 Priority Area #2: Supply-Side Factors, Ma. Josephine Therese Emily G. Teves, Mariel Joy S. Sampang, and Sarah Grace L. Candelario examine the systems that shape early learning outcomes, from child development centers to the workforce and learning resources that support them.
