Forty-three years ago, on August 21, 1983, Senator Benigno βNinoyβ Aquino Jr. returned to the Philippines after years of exile. His return, and the events that followed, became a defining chapter in our nationβs history.
Today, we remember Ninoy Aquino not only for the sacrifice that marked his final journey home, but also for the courage, conviction, and love of country reflected throughout his life.
Yet remembrance is not meant to end with looking back.
For us, the youth, history is a responsibility. It asks us to understand the struggles that shaped our nation, to value the freedoms entrusted to us, and to recognize the role we play in shaping what comes next.
To remember is to learn.
To learn is to understand.
And to understand is to choose what kind of future we will help build.
May this Ninoy Aquino Day remind us that patriotism does not always demand grand gestures. Sometimes, it begins with something as simple as seeking the truth, standing for what is right, caring for others, and choosing to make a difference where we are.
Because the stories of yesterday do not belong only to the past.
