Due to the inclement weather, F2F classes are suspended tomorrow, 10 August 2026, and will shift to a virtual modality. Students with Monday classes are advised to coordinate with their professors regarding alternative online arrangements.

Following the announcement of the Quezon City Government, the UP Diliman Office of the Chancellor announced that all face-to-face classes in UP Diliman are suspended tomorrow, 10 August 2026, due to inclement weather. The members of the faculty are enjoined to conduct alternative modes of learning (synchronous/asynchronous).

Work in all UPD units shall remain onsite.

Dr. Marlon James Sales of the Spanish section served as moderator and resource person in “Traducciones de ida y vuelta | Roundtrip Translation,” a roundtable discussion on the state of translating Spanish-language fiction in the Philippines. The discussion was held at the Intramuros branch of the Instituto Cervantes de Manila on Thursday, 30 July 2026. Joining Dr. Sales were broadcast journalist and author Marga Ortigas and medical doctor, author and translator Dr. Alice Sun-Cua.

"Dr. Marlon James Sales is an associate professor at UP Diliman whose published translations include Gonzalo Torrente Ballester’s Ang Kuwento ng Haring Tulala, Gabriel Miró’s The Leprous Bishop and Our Father San Daniel, and the co-translation of short stories featured in Mga Papel ni Benengeli. Beyond literary translation, his research examines missionary linguistics, translation history, and early Philippine grammar texts."

Dr. Marlon James Sales of the Spanish Section is one of the invited resource persons in "Traducciones ida y vuelta / Roundtrip Translation," a colloquium on the state of literary translations from Spanish into Philippine languages, organized by the Instituto Cervantes de Manila in cooperation with Embassy of Spain in the Philippines, AECID Philippines, and the Intramuros Administration. The colloquium will take place in Intramuros on July 30th at 5:00 PM.
