The Philippine Society of United Master Plumbers Inc. (PSUMP) โ Central Visayas Chapter successfully conducted its Regional Technical Conference and Educational Tour on ๐
March 21, 2025 | ๐ 8:00 AM โ 5:00 PM in the province of Bohol.
This educational activity forms part of the organizationโs continuing commitment to strengthen the technical competence and professional development of master plumbers by providing exposure to actual large-scale water treatment facilities and modern potable water supply systems.
Participants visited two major water treatment plants that play a vital role in providing safe drinking water to communities in Bohol:
๐ Cortes Water Treatment Plant โ Cortes, Bohol
๐ Gotozon Water Treatment Plant โ Loboc, Bohol
Through this technical tour, participants gained firsthand knowledge of modern water treatment technologies, plant operations, and water distribution systems, allowing them to better understand how potable water is produced and delivered to households and communities.

The Cortes Water Treatment Plant is one of the major bulk water supply facilities serving central Bohol. The plant sources its raw water primarily from nearby river systems, particularly the Malingin River, which provides a sustainable surface water source for treatment.
This facility was developed to address the growing demand for potable water in the province, especially in rapidly expanding urban centers and tourism destinations.
By utilizing surface water instead of relying solely on groundwater extraction, the project helps promote sustainable water resource management while protecting underground aquifers from depletion and saltwater intrusion.

The Cortes Water Treatment Plant supplies treated water to several municipalities and urban centers including:
โข Tagbilaran City
โข Panglao, Bohol
โข Dauis, Bohol
โข Baclayon, Bohol
โข Cortes
The facility produces millions of liters of potable water daily, serving thousands of households as well as commercial establishments and tourism facilities within these service areas.
A network of transmission pipelines and distribution systems delivers treated water from the plant to municipal water districts and local water distribution networks.

The second destination of the educational tour was the Gotozon Water Treatment Plant located in Loboc, Bohol.
This facility forms part of the expanding water infrastructure that supports potable water distribution across several municipalities in central and southern Bohol.
As the population and tourism sector continue to grow in the province, water treatment facilities like Gotozon play an important role in ensuring reliable, sustainable, and safe water supply systems.

The water system connected to the Gotozon facility supports municipalities including:
โข Loboc
โข Loay
โข Alburquerque
โข Baclayon
Through coordinated municipal water distribution systems, residents in these areas receive treated water that meets established health and safety standards.

During the tour, participants observed the actual operational processes used in modern water treatment plants, including:
๐น Raw water intake from river sources
๐น Coagulation and flocculation processes
๐น Sedimentation and filtration systems
๐น Disinfection and chlorination
๐น Water quality monitoring and laboratory testing
๐น Storage reservoirs and pumping systems for distribution
These treatment stages demonstrate how untreated surface water is transformed into safe and potable drinking water suitable for domestic, commercial, and institutional use.
For master plumbers, understanding these processes is essential because plumbing systems serve as the final link in delivering safe drinking water to consumers.
Proper plumbing design, installation, and maintenance ensure that water quality remains protected from the treatment plant all the way to households and buildings.

Participants of the educational tour were awarded โญ 5.00 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Units, contributing to the professional learning requirements of licensed master plumbers.
Beyond the CPD credits, the activity also provided opportunities for:
๐ค Knowledge sharing
๐ค Professional networking
๐ค Technical discussions among practitioners
๐ค Collaboration within the plumbing and water industry

Through initiatives such as the Regional Technical Conference and Educational Tour, PSUMP continues to promote:
โ Advancement of technical knowledge in plumbing and water systems
โ Awareness of modern water treatment technologies
โ Environmental responsibility and sustainable water management
โ Professional growth and collaboration within the plumbing industry
By providing participants with direct exposure to operational water treatment facilities, the organization reinforces the vital role of master plumbers in protecting public health, maintaining water quality, and supporting the development of safe and sustainable water infrastructure throughout the Philippines.
