Advancing STEM Instruction and Governance: DepEd NCR and UP NISMED Launches SIGMA Year 1 for Future-Ready Filipino Learners
IN PHOTOS: DepEd NCR formally launches SIGMA Year 1, a strategic capacity-building initiative for Grade 7 teachers, school leaders, and education program supervisors from Science High Schools across NCR.
SIGMA, which stands for Strengthening Instruction and Governance for Mastery in Advanced STEM Education, forms part of the broader reform initiatives for Special Programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (SPSTEM) in DepEd NCR. Anchored on the Enhanced K to 10 Curriculum, BEDP 2030, and the five priority areas of DepEd NCR, the program seeks to strengthen curriculum implementation, assessment literacy, inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary integration, and research-oriented instruction in Science, Mathematics, Research, and Creative Technologies.
Through the partnership with UP NISMED, participating educators and school leaders are equipped with deeper pedagogical content knowledge, innovative instructional approaches, and governance frameworks necessary to nurture future-ready Filipino learners.
SIGMA Year 1 marks another important milestone in DepEd NCR’s continuing commitment to strengthen Science High Schools and elevate the quality of STEM education across the region. This is a project by the DepEd NCR’s CLMD and HRDD through the leadership of Regional Director and concurrent OIC-Assistant Secretary for Operations, Asec. Jocelyn DR Andaya. This capacity building program started last May 11, 2026 and will run until May 22, 2026.
Together, we move toward a future of stronger science education, empowered educators, and globally competitive Filipino learners.
