광복절 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆

8월 15일 광복절은 1945년 대한민국이 일제의 식민 지배에서 벗어나 광복을 맞이한 것을 기념하는 날입니다.

Today, August 15, Korea commemorates its 81st Gwangbokjeol (광복절), or Liberation Day. Gwangbokjeol commemorates Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945. August 15 also marks the anniversary of the establishment of the government of the Republic of Korea in 1948.

On this meaningful day, King Sejong Institute Quezon City 2 joins in remembering this important moment in Korean history and reflecting on the enduring significance of freedom and independence.

💡 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪?
The Korean word 광복 (gwangbok) literally means “restoration of light” or “the light returns.” It is made up of 광 (光), meaning light, and 복 (復), meaning to restore or recover.

This is why 광복절 (Gwangbokjeol) can be understood as the “Day of the Restoration of Light,” symbolizing Korea’s recovery of national sovereignty.
