“The Philippines is currently at the global cutting edge of fake news and political trolling online. Unfortunately, the country has yet to find firm footing in stemming disinformation’s unruly growth.” — Cabanes and Santiago, 2022
This sobering assessment highlights how deeply disinformation has taken root in Philippine society. Being at the “cutting edge” of fake news is not a title to be proud of—it reflects how online platforms and political actors have weaponized digital spaces, making truth harder to discern and civic dialogue more fragile.
It is not only a technological or media issue, but a moral and social challenge: How do we as educators, Church leaders, and citizens nurture critical thinking, digital responsibility, and a deeper love for truth in our communities?
The quote is especially relevant in spaces like the CEAP National Convention 2025, where Catholic educators gather to reflect on our mission. Education is our strongest tool against disinformation. By forming students who are not just knowledgeable, but discerning and grounded in values, we contribute to a culture where truth, justice, and the common good prevail.
👉 “Disinformation thrives where discernment is weak. As Catholic educators, we must train minds to question, hearts to seek truth, and spirits to choose the good.”

✨ “Travel Light, Live Bright!” ✨
Ezra 9:5–9 · Tobit 13:2–10 · Luke 9:1–6
In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends His disciples with a mission: “Take nothing for your journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic.” He reminds us that to follow Him, we don’t need to carry the weight of the world. What we need is trust, courage, and faith.
Young people today often feel pressured to carry so much—expectations, fears, social media comparisons, family struggles, school demands. But Jesus is saying: travel light. Leave behind what weighs you down. Focus on what gives life, joy, and purpose.
🌱 Reflection
• Let go of excess baggage. Like the apostles, don’t let unnecessary things (toxic habits, negative voices, fears of failure) slow you down.
• Carry what matters. Faith, kindness, hope, and love will always be enough.
• Shine where you are. The disciples were told to enter homes, bless families, and bring peace. You too are called to bring light to your friends, school, family, and community.
Being young is not about having everything, but about daring to live with purpose. Trust that God provides. When you travel light, your heart becomes free to love more and shine brighter.
“When you travel light with Christ, you shine bright for the world.”

That airport feel ✈️ — waiting, anticipating, thinking of the work left behind, and looking forward to the destination ahead. 😊
It’s a threshold moment: one foot in what we’re leaving, one foot in where we’re going. Both are part of the journey. 🌍✨

Just a few minutes ⏰ before Mass, the Lay Ministers suddenly asked, “Father, can we ask a question?”
“Of course, yes!” 🙌 I replied.
Meanwhile, the young servers ⛪️ were already whispering, “Can we begin?” ⏳ while the senior ones reassured them, “We still have some minutes.” 😅
“What is the question?” I asked. 🤔
“Father, are you in favor of the death penalty?” ⚖️
I smiled 🙂 and said, “Why are you asking that? My answer would be obvious. But why the question?” 🙋♂️
They explained: “With all the corruption 💸, maybe corrupt politicians would finally be afraid 😨. They don’t seem afraid of anyone, not even of God 🙏. Maybe the death penalty would deter them.”
We were rushing 🏃♂️💨, but I underlined an important point: Who are the ones in control of our systems 🏛️? Who are the ones getting elected 🗳️? In the end, it is the people 👥 who decide, but often those in power manipulate the system 🎭. The deeper issue is not just punishment 🚫—it is reforming our politics, our institutions, and our culture 🌍. That requires more time 🕰️ for discussion and, above all, more courage 💪 and will ❤️ to change.
And then—our short exchange had to end. The young servers wanted Mass to begin ⛪️ right on time, even with a minute left before schedule ⏰. Perhaps they had somewhere important to go afterward 😄.
👉 Reflection takeaway: Sometimes, even in quick conversations 💬, we are reminded that real change does not come from fear 😨, but from conversion 💡 and courage 💖.

When I was asked, “What are your challenges in ministry today?” my first instinct was to say, “There are many.” But let me share just a few.
⚖️ Balancing pastoral care with administration
As a pastor, I want to give compassion, patience, and understanding. But as an administrator, I also need to uphold policies and procedures. The challenge is in discerning when to be merciful and when to be firm—always with fairness and love.
🚶♂️ Constant moving from one mission to another
You grow close to people, become familiar with the systems, and then one day you are called to leave and begin again. It is painful to let go, yet it also teaches trust: God’s mission is bigger than one place or one role.
🕊️ Surrounded yet alone
In ministry, you are available to many, but you cannot be exclusive with anyone. You go home to solitude—not loneliness, but a space where prayer becomes your anchor. 🙏 Prayer reminds us that God meets us where we are and leads us to where He wants us to be.
✨ In the end, these challenges do not weaken the vocation. They purify and strengthen it. Priesthood is not about me—it’s about Christ and His mission.
“You are available to many, but you must belong completely to God.”

📚⏳ “Restless but Ready: Finding Peace in Delays” 🙏✨
Dear Ateneans,
Today we celebrate St. Augustine of Hippo, who reminds us:
“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You, O Lord.” 💡
You may feel restless right now—your first quarter exams postponed twice. Nakakastress. Nakakabigat. But God speaks to you through today’s readings:
⸻
📖 1st Reading (1 Jn 4:7–16)
“God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God.” 💖
When schedules change, anxiety grows. But remember: love and patience must guide you. Love yourself enough to rest. Love your classmates by encouraging them. Abide in God, and He will calm your restless heart.
⸻
📖 Responsorial Psalm (Ps 119)
“How can the young keep their way pure? By guarding it according to Your word.” ✨📖
Postponements can tempt you to give up, to be careless, or to cram. But the psalm reminds you—stay faithful, keep your focus, and let honesty and discipline guide your preparation.
⸻
📖 Gospel (Mt 23:8–12)
“The greatest among you must be your servant.” 🙇
Even in exams, humility matters. Instead of comparing scores or panicking, serve one another—share notes, quiz each other, pray together. Exams are not just about grades, but about growing in character and helping each other succeed.
⸻
🌟 Exams may move, but God does not. Each postponement is not wasted time, but an extra chance to grow in patience, humility, and love.
Like St. Augustine, let your restless heart find peace in God. Trust Him—because while exams may be postponed, His grace never is. 🙏✨
⸻✨
“Exams may be postponed, but God’s grace is never delayed. Waiting is God’s way of preparing your heart.”

“Where is your treasure? 💖 This Sunday’s Gospel invites us to look beyond wealth, comfort, and possessions, and to re-anchor our hearts in what truly lasts—faith, love, and service. Like Abraham, we are called to trust God even when the road ahead is uncertain. Wealth can be a good servant but a terrible master; if we wait to be rich before doing good, we might never begin. Let us remember the Source of all our blessings, live simply, give generously, and keep our hearts ready for the Lord. In Him, our hearts will always be rich, our souls always ready, and our lives always secure.” 🙏✨
