A senator ran up the stairs. Two days later, gunshots rang out in the Senate building. Everyone was on lockdown. Then politicians went live online. What does it feel like to watch all of this unfold online?
On TikTok, citizens shared not just videos, but also emotions. Some expressed anger, others hope, and many a collective urgency for action.
John Rovic L. Catangay of the UP College of Social Sciences and Philosophy explored this construction of emotions, particularly hope. He argued that some movements begin not with rigid ideology, but with a shared feeling capable of challenging the status quo. ๐ฑ

After enjoying a steaming cup of coffee, people usually discard the spent grounds. But for a researcher from UP College of Fine Arts , this biomaterial became the start of something new.
๐๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ธ, developed by Louise Jastin I. Beron, is a reusable coffee filter made from spent coffee grounds mixed with clay. Featuring carvings inspired by Taalโs kalyado pattern, Latak reflects Beronโs cultural identity and passion for sustainability, combined into one piece.โ

Many of today's greatest inventions weren't born in labsโthey came from ordinary people solving everyday problems.
For instance, after Typhoon Yolanda struck Tacloban, communities improvised fiberglass boats. These locally made solutions, later refined by NGOs, saved lives and inspired future disaster-preparedness initiatives.
This shows that research and invention are not exclusive to laboratories; they thrive in everyday life, especially when necessity calls.
Who knows? You might create the greatest invention of all time.
