Capping the weeklong Congress is, the newest addition, the Earth Reach, on 19 November 2016. This interactive seminar aims to reach out to the Filipino communities and impart valuable and timely knowledge they can utilize in their everyday lives.

The highschool tour will start with a tour to NIGS laboratories. This aims to expose the students to the world of Geology other than the typical fieldwork life. The tour will then proceed to the Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs to expose the students to the rich history of Angono Petroglyphs. A short lecture will be done there and a museum visit will also be conducted. The last destination for the tour will be the Pililia Windmills. This will expose the students to the world of green energy. General geology of the area will also be discussed.

The National Geology Congress 2016 is coming back this monday! To kick-start the event, we will be having a career talk in the afternoon at 1 PM, NIGS AVR.
The main objective of the event is to expose geologists and future geologists to different career options. We have three speakers from different fields namely Dr. Rolly Rimando from PHIVOLCS, Dr. Edmund Piquero Hydrogeologist at CH2M and Dr. JM Foronda from petroleum and coal industry.

The High School Workshop follows the ESTS 2016 on its second day and aims to widen the students’ understanding of geology through laboratory activities that help in the visualization of geological concepts and processes.

The Earth Science Teachers’ Seminar and Workshop, on 15 - 16 November 2016, at UP NIGS, envisions contributing towards a deeper understanding and a more effective communication of the Earth Sciences, particularly on Philippine Geology. Local experts will be invited to give lectures and workshops to high school teachers to help them enhance their Earth Science modules.

This opening activity will be a talk about energy as it is the unifying theme of this year's National Geology Congress. Through this, professionals from various fields of geology will impart their knowledge, experiences, and the opportunities available for aspiring geologists. The target audience will include geology students from the different universities offering the B.S. Geology program and other interested individuals.
The talk will be given by Rufino Bomasang, Chairman of the Philippine Petroleum Association of the Upstream Industry, the Philippine Chamber of Coal Mines, and the Malampaya Foundation, entitled "The Role of the Scientific Community in the Development of Indigenous Energy Resources" at the UP NIGS Audio-Visual Room from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

GeoQuiz is an annual three-part geology quiz show that aims to introduce and promote the importance of geosciences in the society, and hone the students’ skills to think analytically under pressure through a friendly competition. This event involves groups of high school students nationwide. It will also be conducted to further enhance the interests of students in geology and consider it as a career option. It will be held on 17 November 2016 at the UP National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS).
