The Bangsamoro Gallery: An Interactive Exhibit

To celebrate the Mindanao Week of Peace, the Teach Peace Build Peace Movement (TPBPM) has partnered with the Center for Peace Education Miriam College to bring “The Bangsamoro Gallery” to life at the Miriam College QC campus. According to the TPBPM, “the gallery is an interactive exhibit that challenges misconceptions by showcasing the resilience, culture, and faith of the Bangsamoro people, creating a space for authentic dialogue, youth storytelling, and strengthened intercultural and interfaith connections that foster peace and social cohesion."

The exhibit was made available for viewing from November 25 to 26, and a short program was held to celebrate it’s opening. Highlights of the program included welcome remarks from Dr. Loreta Castro (Executive Director, CPE) and a Message of Peace from Ms. Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman, also known as “Ate Honey” (Founder, TPBPM). Through her message, Ate Honey has placed emphasis on our significant role in building peace as an academic institution in Metro Manila and reminds us that “peacebuilding cannot only happen “where the conflict is”; it must also happen where the narratives are formed”. Although it was brief, the MC community expresses its profound gratitude to experience the exhibit these past two days and further expand our knowledge on the continuing peace process and revitalize our commitment towards lasting peace in the Bangsamoro.

In celebration of Mindanao Solidarity Week, the Center for Peace Education organized a hybrid lecture titled, An Update on the Bangsamoro Peace Process last November 14, 2025. We invited Dir. Wendell Orbeso, the Head of the M**F Peace Process Office of the OPAPRU (Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity), to be our resource speaker for this activity. During his discussion, Dir. Orbeso not only gave us a comprehensive background on the peace process, but also left some key messages for our students on how the youth can play a role in sustaining peace. He particularly highlighted the need for youth to engage in community work, promote inclusivity and respect, use their voices responsibly online, and choose empathy and understanding in their daily lives.

The lecture was succeeded by a fruitful exchange of questions and ideas between the students, online participants, and Dir. Orbeso. Then, the program concluded with a closing message from Ms. Beyoncé De Leoz, 3rd Year MCIS student and EVP of Pax Christi Miriam College. As a youth leader, Ms. De Leoz reminded us that “the journey of peace doesn’t end in just one peace agreement. It is a continuous process in which we have a role to play as well”.

The Center for Peace Education Miriam College and Pax Christi Pilipinas organized the forum, “Hibakusha Memories: A Call to End Nuclear Weapons”, which was held at the school's Innovation Center on August 29. Hibakushas Mr. Hakariya and Mr. Obha shared how an ordinary morning in Nagasaki turned into unimaginable devastation and unspeakable human suffering when a plutonium-fueled bomb (code name Fat Man) was dropped on August 9, 1945 at 11:02 am. Their stories of loss, resilience, and hope moved students, teachers and peace advocates present, uniting everyone in one urgent call: Nagasaki must be the last city to endure an atomic bomb! 🕊
