SK Tandang Sora Trains Soranians in Flower Arrangement Workshop

In celebration of Women’s Month, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Tandang Sora launched “Mission KITA: Kabataan in Action,” a flower arrangement training session held on March 16, 2026, at the Tandang Sora National High School (TSNHS) library.

The activity centered on economic empowerment, a key theme of Women’s Month that honors the legacy of Melchora “Tandang Sora” Aquino by fostering self-reliance. By providing floral design training, the SK equipped young women and learners with the skills to build their own small businesses, turning a creative craft into a source of financial independence. This initiative transformed the symbolic beauty of flowers into a practical means of livelihood, celebrating the modern woman’s role as both a creator and an entrepreneur.

Selected learners from Grade 9 Einstein and Grade 8 Diamond, led by Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) President, Kyle Canceran, participated in the workshop.

The initiative was facilitated by SK Chairperson, Julles Apo, together with SK Kagawads, Sette Laud, Rocky Reyes, Renzo Ramos, Ley Dacara, Jay Torres, Adrian Codog, and Zaira Montecalbo, with Mrs. Jane Cueto as the guest speaker.

Mrs. Cueto, a floral expert, guided the students through the technical aspects of the craft. She shared that her main goal was for young people to learn. She also emphasized that the program was not only about earning income but also about equipping learners with practical skills to become self-reliant in the future.

The session ended with a photo opportunity, where students showcased their handmade bouquets, marking another successful effort by the SK to support the school community during Women’s Month.

The Gender and Development (GAD) Club of Tandang Sora National High School (TSNHS) successfully conducted an Anti-Bullying Seminar with the theme "Stand Up, Speak Out: Empowering Students Against Bullying" at the school library on February 24, 2026.

The event gathered students, EsP (Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao) faculty members, department heads, and school administrators to foster a safer and more inclusive campus environment.

Mr. Lorenzo C. Buenaventura, EsP Head Teacher III, welcomed everyone, while our beloved principal, Dr. Lorna Mendoza, inspired Soranians to break the silence and speak up against bullying:
"If you do not stand up and if you do not speak up, bullies will just continue to roam around."

The resouce speaker, Ms. Carmel Portia Cruz, provided a comprehensive breakdown of the issue, categorizing bullying into four primary types: direct, indirect, cyberbullying, and covert. She likewise shared the traits of both victims and bullies, emphasizing how bullying can deeply affect individuals and the entire school community.

To build empathy students joined the interactive "Balloon Burst" activity, responding to scenario-based questions that encouraged understanding and compassion.

The event concluded with the awarding of a certificate to the resource speaker, followed by a heartfelt closing ceremony led by Mrs. Maggie B. Armas, the GAD coordinator.

This initiative represents a significant step in the school’s ongoing effort to ensure that every Soranian feels safe, secure, and valued within the school grounds.

To foster emotional resilience and awareness, the Gender and Development (GAD) Club of Tandang Sora National High School (TSNHS) hosted a targeted mental health seminar for Grades 8 and 9 students at the school library on Friday, Feb. 6.

The program opened with a prayer and a nationalistic song, followed by the opening remarks from Grade 9 Guidance Teacher, Mrs. Anne Fe Benito.

The seminar featured guest speaker and former TSNHS educator, Ms. Kimberly Rose E. Mahinay, who emphasized that emotional support often transcends grand gestures.

"If you have a friend going through a rough time, simply being beside them is enough," Mahinay noted, highlighting the power of presence.

Addressing the pressures of student life, Mahinay encouraged the youth to reject the "culture of competition" in favor of personal growth. "Focus on what you can complete," she advised. "Doing things step-by-step is more important than rushing to the finish line."

Ms. Mahinay outlined key pillars for a healthy mindset, emphasizing physical wellness through a balanced diet, emotional honesty, and the importance of seeking professional therapy. She further urged students to practice empathy by treating others with kindness to avoid escalating their distress.

The seminar concluded with GAD Coordinator Mrs. Maggie B. Armas presenting a certificate of appreciation to the speaker. In her closing remarks, Armas reminded the students that their internal struggles do not define their worth.

"You are not alone; your feelings matter," Mrs. Armas said. "Be kind to yourself and others. Taking care of your mental health is taking care of your future."

Celebrating student excellence and championing the theme “Mathematics is hope,” the Mathematics Department capped its month-long celebration with a Culminating Program on February 6, highlighting the subject’s role in everyday life and unleashing students’ creativity, talent, and enthusiasm for mathematics.

The program featured a variety performances, competitions, and recognition activities participated in by students from Grades 7 to 10, designed to promote mathematics as both meaningful and enjoyable.

Mr. Phillip J. Cabildo, Mathematics Department Head Teacher VI, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the vital role of mathematics in developing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Teresa Salcedo-Grant, TLE Department Head Teacher VI, gave an inspirational message encouraging students to view mathematics not merely as a challenging subject but as an enjoyable learning experience.

“Palakpakan ninyo ang inyong sarili dahil natutunan ninyo ngayon na sa mathematics, lagi tayong nakakahanap ng solusyon,” Dr. Salcedo-Grant said.

The highlight of the event was the Awarding Ceremony, led by the head teachers from different subject areas. Winners of various Math Month competitions were recognized, including Damath, Rubik’s Cube Challenge, Quiz Bee, Mathula, Math Wall, Matheme’, and Mathiniktok.

Adding energy to the event, the school dance troupe performed an intermission number featuring “Dungka” by SB19 and “Pantropiko” by BINI, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.

In an interview Miar Magbanua, Math Club President, encouraged fellow students not to lose hope when facing difficulties in mathematics.

“Ang mai-aadvice ko sa mga estudyante ay huwag silang mawalan ng pag-asa kapag nahihirapan sila sa math. Nandiyan lang ang Math Club at ang mga math teachers para tulungan sila, kaya huwag silang mahiyang magsabi,” Magbanua said.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Aubrey Rose A. Tayag, Mathematics Master Teacher, who expressed her gratitude to the teachers, students, and organizers for their support and active participation.

The Math Month Culminating Program ended on a high note, inspiring students to appreciate mathematics not only as an academic subject but as an essential and enjoyable part of daily life.

Soranians Join WRAD 2026; Conduct School-Wide Reading Activity

In a unified effort to foster a love for reading and community spirit, Tandang Sora National High School (TSNHS) joined the global celebration of World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) on Tuesday, February 4.

The school-wide activity, held in compliance with Division Memorandum No. 094, s. 2026, titled “2026 World Read Aloud Day” engaged learners from Grades 7 to 10, along with teachers, non-teaching personnel and SPTA to celebrate the power of stories to connect people.

The synchronized event was conducted in two sessions to accommodate the learners. Grades 7 and 10 participated in the morning session at 10:05 AM, while Grades 8 and 9 joined the afternoon session at 2:00 PM. Two designated sections held the activity at the TSNHS court, while the rest conducted the activity simultaneously in their classrooms under the supervision of subject teachers.

Mr. Jefferson Ferrer, the Reading Coordinator, facilitated the morning session, while Mrs. Glenda Pinto, the ARAL Reading Focal Person, managed the afternoon program that included a 10-minute reading of an assigned story, followed by a sharing of insights that allowed learners to reflect on the material.

Following the DepEd guidelines, Mr. Ferrer and Mrs. Pinto employed interactive reading techniques such as asking predictive questions and encouraging listeners to place themselves in the characters' shoes.

“As a reading coordinator, this activity (WRAD) is vital for our school because it models fluency. Students read aloud with expression, emotion and proper pacing. This improves their reading abilities especially in vocabulary and comprehension,” Mr. Ferrer said.

Dr. Mercy L. Pan, the English Department Head, who supervised the successful conduct of the event, emphasized the necessity of passion in learning.

“You have to love reading,” Dr. Pan stated, reminding the learners that reading isn't only a hobby, but a way to understand, explore and widen their knowledge.
