The UP Department of Journalism invites applications for a full-time faculty position to start in A.Y. 2026-2027. (This is to fill an anticipated vacancy.)
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Department of Journalism. They will be teaching undergraduate and/or graduate journalism courses, in addition to mentoring students. The new faculty member will also be assigned to teach common courses offered by the College of Media and Communication. They are also expected to contribute to the research and extension agenda of the Department and participate in departmental, college, and university activities.
Minimum qualifications:
- At least five years experience in journalism
- An MA degree in journalism or related discipline
Note: College-level teaching and academic research experiences are strong advantages.
Appointment terms:
The appointment entails a teaching load of 12 units per semester, which constitutes the regular teaching load in UP. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, in accordance with the government guidelines. Further details will be discussed in subsequent interviews.

Join the Teodoro “Teddy” Benigno Jr. Journalism Lecture 2026 on Tuesday, March 17, featuring Christian Esguerra, founder of Facts First PH.
In this year’s lecture, Independent Journalism in the Age of Social Media, Esguerra will discuss how journalists can reclaim editorial independence and build direct, trust-based relationships with audiences in today’s fragmented information environment.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
This event is presented by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) in partnership with Ayala Corporation, the UP Diliman College of Media and Communication, and the Department of Journalism.

The Philippine Collegian bagged an award at the 11th University of Santo Tomas National Campus Journalism Awards.
News staffer Eunicito O. Barreno won the best in-depth report award for his report on minors registered to vote for elections in Lanao Del Sur. It follows the story of Samira along with other minors who were forced to register for the 2016 local and national elections.
“There were two main reasons why minors registered for the local and national elections: to receive vote-buying money from local candidates and to help relatives who are running for local positions win,” the article reads.
