UVLe is now accessible albeit with some caveats. We apologize again for this abrupt and unexpected disturbance.

First off, the early restoration is still missing the key files that are only in the server that went down. As mentioned earlier, the backup to a different server has failed multiple times without warning even though we thought it was working. Due to this, access to files is limited and it is expected that any files in the last few months will be inaccessible. UVLe is currently operating using a temporary storage system while recovery work on the original storage infrastructure continues. The migration of services and systems required to support the repair of the affected hardware remains in progress.

Course content (excluding files), grades, and most core platform functions remain available. Users may access UVLe and continue performing most normal activities. Files, attachments, submitted work, and other uploaded resources stored on the affected storage system may be temporarily unavailable while the original storage infrastructure remains offline.

Contrary to previous errors which were database related, the disruption this time is mostly data access related. And while there might still be some data loss, there is evidence that this type of infrastructure failure can be restored without any data loss whatsoever. While, we are hoping for the best, we’re also taking every possible precaution to ensure that the data is secure. Throughout this process, preserving and recovering data remains our highest priority, and we continue to carefully assess and verify available data as recovery efforts progress.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support while we complete the remaining restoration activities. Further updates will be provided as significant progress is made. Again, we would like to apologize for this unexpected downtime.

SERVICE RESTORATION UPDATE

We would like to provide a further update regarding the ongoing restoration efforts for UVLe ’22 and related services.

Following our previous advisory, our team has identified a compatible server that can provide the hardware component needed to facilitate the repair of the affected UVLe ’22 server. However, this donor server is currently supporting other active services and systems.

As a result, our team is currently migrating these services and systems to alternative infrastructure to ensure their continued availability and minimize disruption. Once these migration activities have been completed, the donor server can be prepared to support the repair and recovery of the affected UVLe ’22 server.

These migration and recovery procedures are being carried out carefully to minimize risks and preserve system integrity. We are optimistic that this approach will allow us to proceed with the repair process under the best possible conditions.

Throughout the recovery process, preserving and recovering data remains our highest priority. While restoration efforts are ongoing, our team continues to carefully assess the affected systems and verify available data as part of the recovery process.

Our technical team continues to work diligently and evaluate all available options to restore services as quickly and safely as possible. Further updates will be provided as significant progress is made.

We appreciate your continued patience, understanding, and support during this recovery effort.

We would like to provide an update regarding the ongoing service interruption affecting UVLe ’22. For transparency, here is a timeline of events and diagnosis so far.

Last Friday, we received reports from users and observed that UVLe ’22 had become unavailable. Upon investigation, our team identified that one of the servers supporting the platform is currently turned off. After a thorough investigation, it was due to an issue affecting its RAID controller. The RAID controller is a critical hardware component responsible for managing communication and access between the server and its storage drives. As a result of its degraded condition, system availability is significantly affected.

As part of our immediate response efforts, we conducted some quick response measures that would have possibly fixed the issue last Saturday, including reseating the RAID controller into an alternative PCIe slot, in case it was a slot error, as well as cold booting the server in case the raid controller had failed some initialization steps due to a stuck process. However, these measures did not resolve the issue. Based on our current technical assessment, replacing the RAID controller with an identical model is expected to preserve the integrity of the existing data. Nevertheless, replacement, validation, and recovery activities may require approximately two weeks to complete. Do note that there might be some further interruptions in other services hosted in the OVCAA servers as we try to get a similar RAID controller from a different server, as procurement is not a feasible option in the short term.

Our technical team continues to work diligently to restore services at the earliest possible opportunity. However, do expect that some files would be inaccessible as we are only running a backup of the storage. The backup has some of the files in it, but there have been some sync issues over the past few months that went unnoticed. Unfortunately, the other storage backup is on the same server, which was only meant as a means to optimize data transfer rates.

In the meantime, we are evaluating all feasible recovery paths and contingency measures to accelerate restoration efforts while maintaining data integrity.

What to do in before full restoration:
For those who have not yet finished grading, the preliminary restoration will not include the files submitted by your students, but the record of their submission as well as when they submitted would be included in the restored version. We hope that you could request your students to submit the work again. The quizzes and other activities that do not require file submission will also be in the restored version.

For those who would want new courses, the UVLe ‘26 is in a different set of servers will be online within the week. We already had plans to open it this week but is pushed back due to the current circumstances.

We know how important UVLe is to you every single day, and we are so truly sorry for how much this disruption is messing up your classes and schedules. Our team is working as hard and as fast as we can to get everything fixed and fully running again.

Your patience and understanding right now mean everything to us. We are doing everything we can to get UVLe back to normal so you can get back to your work without any more stress.

We would like to inform the University community that the University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLe) will undergo scheduled server maintenance and system transition from June 12, 2026 to June 15, 2026.

In line with Memorandum No. ILCD-MFMR-25-005 - Launch of the New UVLe, the current UVLe ’22 platform, accessible at uvle.upd.edu.ph, will be transitioned to the newer UVLe ’26 platform, currently accessible at bagong-uvle.upd.edu.ph. Please note that users of UVLe ’22 need not be concerned, as access to UVLe ‘22 will remain unaffected throughout and after the transition.

During the maintenance period, UVLe ‘26 will be unavailable to all users.

We would also like to inform everyone that the CRS Integration is currently unavailable due to the upgrades that were done to CRS. As a result, automatic synchronization of courses, class lists, and enrollment data between CRS and UVLe is temporarily unavailable. We are still in the process of fixing this issue.

To assist users in preparing for UVLe ‘26, migration guides, training materials, and tutorials highlighting the platform's key features and enhancements are available through the Tutorial Courses menu.

Additional information regarding the final maintenance schedule will be released prior to the maintenance activity.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to provide a more reliable and enhanced learning environment for the University community.

We are also pleased to announce the official launch Kolektibong Online Network para sa Edukasyon at Komunikasyon or KONEK accessible at https://konek.upd.edu.ph, the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Open Learning Management System (Open LMS).

KONEK is an open, community-powered learning platform inspired by UP Diliman’s UVLe. With just an email address, anyone can explore curated courses, learning objects, and resources created by educators across the Philippines, and learn anytime, anywhere, at their own pace.

The UP Diliman community is invited to explore and utilize KONEK as part of the University's continuing commitment to innovation, lifelong learning, and knowledge sharing.
