Dr. Manuel 'Manolet' Dayrit is an epidemiologist by profession, an expert in the study of the outbreaks of diseases, the causes, locations, and how various communities are affected, utilizing relative information to aid in the prevention of future outbreaks.

Throughout his career life, Dr. Manolet, brought with him his discipline in this study until he became a DOH secretary during the outbreak of SARS, 17 years ago and he is largely credited for defending our country against its entry and spread together with his competent handling of a host of other diseases, e.g. tuberculosis, dengue, polio.

Under his watch, he widened the use of low-cost generic drugs and gave broader access to social insurance among indigents, i.e. Philhealth.
