[UPDATES] On class modality adjustments in line with the nationwide transport strikes
Good day, Ateneans!
This coming March 26 and 27, the No to Oil Price Hike coalition declared a nationwide transport strike, involving public utility jeepneys, UV Express, buses, trucks, motorcycle taxis, and transport network vehicle services (TNVS). It is expected to paralyze major transportation routes, affecting students and workers. In response, the administration declared a mostly onsite modality for these dates, despite the forecasted impacts on students.
In line with this, hears the concern of our fellow students who will be affected by the transport strike. We maintain our disposition towards the pursuit of inclusive and empathetic mitigation measures that take into consideration the hardships of a significant portion of students who use these modes of transportation. We are currently corresponding with the administration and forwarding concerns and findings from our constituency checks on the impacts of the oil crisis on students.
At the same time, we call on our fellow students and the larger community to express solidarity with the transport workers and situate our own struggles as commuters, as students, as citizens in the larger struggle of the Filipino masses being devastated by this crisis.
We also encourage students to continue answering the constituency check for a more comprehensive view of our experiences and conditions.

HPV is usually spread through skin-to-skin intimate contact, which means it can be passed during sexual activity. This is why awareness about HPV is especially important. Knowing about HPV does not mean assuming anything about a personโs behaviorโit simply means being informed.
Most HPV infections go away on their own and never cause problems. However, some types of HPV can lead to health issues later in life, including cervical cancer and other cancers that affect both women and men. The good news is that these risks can be greatly reduced through awareness, vaccination, regular screening, and open conversations with healthcare professionals.
We invite you to join us for a talk titled Caring for Life: Cervical Health & HPV Awareness
The session will feature Ma. Socorro Bernardino, MD, FPOGS, FIFEPAG, who will share valuable insights on cervical health and HPV awareness. A personal testimony will also be shared by Isabella Fernando-Dela Cruz

HOW ARE ATENEANS FARING WITH THE OIL PRICE HIKES?
Last February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on multiple cities of Iran, which escalated war in the region and caused a global oil crisis amid the closure of vital oil chokepoints.
In just the past few weeks, the Philippines saw a double-digit increase in fuel prices, with diesel being driven to well over PHP 100 this week.
Transport groups and agencies are also set to implement fare hikes, along with a forecasted spike in the prices of basic goods and services, doubling down on Filipinosโ financial hardship with the rising costs of living.
In line with this, asked Ateneans on their current situation given the rising prices of oil and transportation. The initial results and recommendations from this constituency check have been forwarded to the administration to provide insight on possible mitigation measures.

[READ] Updates on the Tuition and Other Fees Increase
Last February, the Sanggunian met with the Vice President for Higher Education (VPHE) to present a position paper against the 6% TOFI, as well as a proposed stakeholder engagement mechanism that addresses the experienced lack of awareness and avenues for contentions of the wider student body on university policies. It also aims to bridge the shortcomings of student representatives for information dissemination and broader constituent engagement on pertinent issues.
Following this, the Sanggunian remains committed to upholding the interests of the student body to stand firmly against the tuition and other fees increase, especially amid an emerging global economic crisis. We continue to urge the studentry to participate in the avenues below to campaign against a tuition fee increase for A.Y. 2026-2027.

๐ฃ Constituency Check on the Effects of the Oil Price Hike and Rising Transportation Costs
Kumusta, Atenista?
Following the crisis in the Middle East, gasoline companies and suppliers have implemented double-digit oil price hikes to the detriment of millions of Filipinos already struggling with the costs of commodities and basic needs. Fare prices are also set to increase, affecting commuters, especially students and workers.
The Sanggunian wants to know how our fellow students are being affected by rising fuel prices and transportation costs. Results from this survey shall be used to lobby and formulate contingency measures to abate the adverse effects of the oil price hike.
