Seventeen participants—composed of 16 teachers from five schools and one Education Program Supervisor from the Schools Division of Muntinlupa City—attended the 6th Telescope Workshop for Educators on 22 May 2026. The participants learned about the different parts of a telescope and were guided on how to assemble the telescope units they received from the Department of Education. They also had the opportunity to use the UP NISMED Observatory’s 16-inch reflecting telescope to view Venus, the craters of the Moon, and Jupiter and its moons.

It is with great pride and joy that we congratulate Mr. Eligio C. Obille Jr., fondly known as Sir JunO, of the UP NISMED High School Earth and Environmental Science Group, for being awarded this year’s Gawad Tsanselor para sa Natatanging REPS (Extension Cluster)!

His exceptional contributions to Earth and space education benefitted a lot of teachers and students alike and the Philippine’s basic education community at large. His commitment and passion to teach advances UP NISMED’s instruction, extension, and public engagement in astronomy and Earth Science. Sir JunO led, sustained, and expanded the Institute’s Stargazing Program, bringing the cosmos closer to hundreds of teachers, students, and general public through both online and face-to-face activities.
