In this installation, Cathy Lasam Ballo presents a work composed entirely of woven paperโFilipino education policies, Department of Education memoranda, discarded textbooks - stacked, coiled, twisted, and woven together to form a net. ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐บ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐บ๐ผ๐ examines and comments on the intertwined relationships between policy, Filipino social values and neoliberal discourses on employment and the resulting valuation of the arts in education. It explores the ways in which these create complex, layered, and rigid literal and metaphorical structures, and in turn invites its audience to do the same.
The audience's participation in the work will be observed, documented, and will become part of the artist's academic research.

DEADLINE EXTENDED
We are extending the deadline of submissions for the fourth volume of the Art Studies Journal on the role of digital technologies in art and cultural practices until October 24, 2025.
Aptly following the volume on the entanglements of art and modernities, the journal prompts discussions on the disruptions and transformations brought by technologies that have been fully integrated with contemporary life. The journal also expands the formats of submissions accepted for review. Submissions written in English or Filipino are accepted.
Kindly see the detailed submission guidelines by scanning the QR code below or in the journal website: http://artstudiesjournal.upd.edu.ph

'Ginhawa and our Sacred Ecologies'
is an exhibit enframed within the diverse expressive aesthetics of ginhawa, and the necessities of its existence โ of deep ease and balance, one that welcomes sacred rest, regenerative quiet, reflective moments and time-out in order to โtune-inโ to our inner and outer sacred ecologies โ as pathways to reclaim our self-autonomy and sovereignty in an increasingly discordant, autogenerated, digital-based world. Through acts of slow-existence, the sacred silence and ginhawa that co-mingle in these works, we are reminded how the multidisciplinary arts can offer us vital spaces to just be, to breathe, to gather back life, within ourselves and our vital ecoscapes โ and perhaps forego, even for a while, the burgeoning tyranny of the digital, the instant but fleeting notifications of our times.
