We are often asked what shows we recommend for children, and we are never able to give a one-size-fits-all answer. WHY? Because every familyโs reality is different and every childโs development is unique.
BLUEY is a genuinely wonderful show, and we love many things about it. But like all screen content, what matters most is whether it fits a childโs readiness, not whether the show itself is "good."
In our family, we chose to pause watching Bluey for now because we noticed our 4-year-old son was simply not ready for it.
This post is not about avoiding screens altogether or doing parenting perfectly. It's about:
โจ Taking a step back from time to time and assessing our situation
โจ Noticing how screen use affects our children
โจ Checking if screen content still supports connection, regulation, and real-life learning
โจ Adjusting when neededโwithout guilt or pressure
Every family makes their own choices, and thatโs OK. Parents know their children best. Sometimes, pressing pause until a show genuinely supports our childrenโs growth and development can be a loving and responsive parenting strategy.
After all, the mindful use of screens can help support connectedness and better nurture quality parent-child interactions. ๐

When small everyday moments are met with reflection and intentionality, they lead to long-term safety and security ๐

Parents are often depicted as people whoโฆ
๐๐ป put their childrenโs needs ahead of their own
๐๐ป sacrifice themselves to provide for their children
๐๐ป need to stay strong for the sake of their children
We sometimes forget that parents are human beings whoโฆ
โค๏ธโ๐ฉน are allowed to feel negative emotions
โค๏ธโ๐ฉน experience their own struggles and challenges
โค๏ธโ๐ฉน have their own baggage and unprocessed issues
When we talk about parental mental health, we recognize how parentsโ own overall well-being can affect their childrenโs lives in many ways. To raise a generation of โwell-kids,โ we need โwell-parentsโ too. โจ

In these uncertain times, our children look to us for calm, honesty, and connection. When we openly talk about earthquakes, anxiety, and safety, weโre not just preparing for emergencies. We're also modeling courage, empathy, and trust. ๐

Rallies are happening in the country today. Some kids will see or hear about it, others may not. Either way, they look to us to make sense of the world. โจ
Talking about these events at home matters because:
๐ฌ Without guidance, kids may get confused what's happening
๐ฌ Open and honest conversations teach honesty, fairness, and courage even at a young age
๐ฌ We want to be their safe space (the people they approach when they have questions about anything)
As parents, we canโt shield our children from everything, but we can give them clarity, security, and values to hold on to in these uncertain times. ๐ต๐ญ
