LESSON 2 (THAI SENTENCE 1)
THAI sentence
1. The Affirmative sentence : Word Order
Thai is an SVO-language; This means that an affirmative sentence consists,in principles, of a SUBJECT, VERB and an OBJECT, and it is also built up in order in that order (subject-verb-object) just like english.
ex: co้j kin kha้aw =joy- to eat/eat- rice
JOY EATS RICE.
note: basta i-follow niyo lng ang format na Subject verb object in sentence construction.
2. Interrogative Sentence
The word order of the sentence is the same as of that affirmative sentence.because Thai s a Tonal Language, a question is not indicated by intonation as in english and not use a punctuation mark(thai has no punctuation marks), but by means of question particle, which is a fixed word appearing in the END of the question. There are two basic question particle:
a. ไหม ma๊j --used in general questions
b. หรือ ru๊e -- used in rhetorical questions or questions answerable by YES or NO (Yes-No questions)
The Question particle is, just like the rising intonation in english( in spoken language) and the qestion mark ( in written language), always place at the end of the sentence.
NOTE:
maj or rue is always put at the end of the sentence when in interrogative sentence.
example:
joy eat rice (question particle)
Is joy eats rice?
coj kin khaaw (maj)
Older brother eat already (question particle)
Have you (has elder brother) eatin rice already?
phi้i kin kha้aw lee๋w ru๊e
