The UP Asian Center is one with the Filipino people in celebrating the 128th Philippine Independence Day. Today, we honor the generations who asserted the Filipino people's right to self-determination and national sovereignty in the face of foreign domination.

At a time when historical narratives, territorial rights, and national interests continue to be contested, Independence Day calls us to remain steadfast in defending the freedoms won through sacrifice, in upholding rights as a nation, and in protecting spaces, maritime heritage, and resources of the Filipino people.

Explore the complex interactions of conflict, trade, religion, and cross-cultural exchange that defined Zamboanga’s place in the region during the Spanish colonial period. This lecture is organized by the UP Asian Center and the UP Bangsamoro Studies Group.
