UP Circle of Landscape Architecture Students UPCLAS is duly recognized university-wide organization based at UP College of Architecture.

Being represented mostly by the Landscape Architecture studentry, the organization has been working to achieve academic excellence, to be good stewards of the built and unbuilt environment, and to maintain and even uplift the legacy that the pioneers of Landscape Architecture has started.

Broadening HUErizons 🌈 for UPCLAS as our members take part in an international stage

From August 2-7, 2026, members of the UP Circle of Landscape Architecture Students (UPCLAS) 🌱 took part in the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), themed "Geoscience Horizons, Pacific Synergy," at the Fukuoka International Congress Center & Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan. 🇯🇵

From the event, the following members had their respective research posted:

Rachelle Astudillo, Linking Riparian Corridors: A QGIS-Based Network Planning for Water Quality Improvement and Flood Mitigation in the Upper Marikina Watershed 💧

Keith Daniel Edquila, GIS-Based Identification of Potential Mangrove Rehabilitation Sites for Flood and Storm Surge Mitigation in Olongapo City ☔️

Raphael Hapa, Multi-Temporal Coastal Flood Risk Assessment of Barangays in Malolos, Bulacan (2030 & 2050): A GIS-Based Inundation and Vulnerability Analysis 🌧️

Marian Musngi, Flood Susceptibility Mitigation Ecological Planning of the Pasay-Paranaque Basin, Metro Manila, Philippines 🍃

Cedric Pahati, GIS-Based Suitability Analysis for Evacuation Center Placement in Hagonoy, Bulacan 🚒

Their work brought landscape architecture into conversation with the wider geoscience community, showing how design, science, and place can grow together across the Pacific. 🔬⛰️

These achievements show how individual dedication and collaborative efforts can carry our field beyond borders and enrich global learning experiences for members of UPCLAS. 🌱

A HUEge win to UPCLAS 🌱 again for a colorful international summer course experience 🌈

July 13 - 19, 2026 marks the UP Circle of Landscape Architecture Students’ (UPCLAS) participation in the Design, Nation, and Action (DNA) International Summer Course in Surabaya, Indonesia. 🇮🇩💚

From the event, the following participants from the organization were awarded:

Neil Carlo Madriñal, for winning 1st place for Best Creative Photography

Khyla Godwin Mangalino, for winning Best Creative Zine, and Best Essay for Lecture 3: Decolonizing Tropical Landscape Architecture and

Princess Angel Targa, for placing 2nd place for Best Creative Photography.

Their group, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Diomari G. Centeno, has also been declared to have the Best Presentation for their cultural experience and learnings. 🤔

These achievements showcase how individual dedication and collaborative efforts can enrich global learning experiences 📝 for members of UPCLAS.

Once again, Congratulations 💚 to Neil, Khyla, Rin, and Prof. Diomari Centeno, for making UPCLAS proud and for leaving yet another inspiring mark in landscape architectural field.
