Speeches are thoughts, and thoughts come from ideas of the mind. How does one come up with and deliver a speech efficiently?

1. Choose among all subjects available.
Knowledge is a multifaceted structure. Some people have their own favorite subjects, and some have subjects that they dislike. Choose one that is close to your heart or a subject that you can handle.

2. Specify.
Once you've chosen a subject, specify on what topic/part of that subject you'll cover. A subject has multiple parts, and in order to come up with a speech efficiently, you must focus on one point.

3. Research.
After steps 1 and 2, research or accumulate additional knowledge about your chosen topic. Read encyclopedias, navigate across the web, etc. Try looking for fun facts that are relevant to your topic.

4. Organize.
After your research about your chosen topic, it's time to organize your draft. Your thoughts must be organized in order to have a natural flow on your speech. An unorganized speech will confuse your listeners.

5. Revise.
Check your draft for grammatical, typographical and spelling errors. After that, edit your original draft and fix your errors.

6. Practice.
After you've finished writing your draft, start on practicing your intonation, pronunciation and volume of voice. Match the mood of the written thoughts in your mind via face gestures or changes in voice. It will give your speech a humane touch.

Impromptu Speech vs Extemporaneous Speech

Impromptu Speech refers to the type of speech that has little to no preparation. It is a speech that is constructed without enough time, making it extremely challenging. In competitive scenes, a contestant will be given a chance to choose from three topics. Once the contestant picks a topic, he/she will be given 1 minute to prepare a speech that is relevant to the topic. The speech's length should reach a maximum of 3 minutes, although it may vary depending on the rules.

Extemporaneous Speech, on the other hand, is a type of speech that allows you to choose a topic close to you. Because of its casual nature, it is delivered in the same manner as you would tell your friends about something that you're interested about. An extemporaneous speech has time for preparation, ranging from 30 minutes up to days or even weeks.

Here are some tips that you can use for your next speech:

1. Speak with clarity.
Speaking with a clear way of pronunciation will allow your audience to understand you better. It will also allow you to express your message clearly.

2. Conciseness matters.
Be concise and direct to the point. The length of your speech should not be too long, as it will bore your audience. It shouldn't be too short, because your audience will be dissatisfied. A speech of 3-5 minutes is sufficient.

3. Practice.
A speaker should practice his/her speech in order to deliver it in the best way he/she can. The most common ways to practice are speaking in front of a mirror, in front of your friends, and in some situations in front of your teacher/mentor. Sufficient practice will help you when it comes to checking grammatical errors and also errors in pronunciation. Remember, practice makes perfect.

4. Speak with a loud voice.
Your voice is what gives a speech life. Without someone to deliver it, a speech is nothing more than a group of written words. In delivering a speech, one must have a powerful voice. A powerful voice must gather the attention of everyone, but it is not synoymous to shouting. Speaking with a voice loud enough to be heard is a good practice to do.

5. Organize your speech.
The speech's message should be organized systematically. The introduction must catch the attention of the listeners, the body should keep them engaged, and the conclusion must make them feel what your message conveys. A poorly organized speech will completely confuse the listeners as they don't know how the speech will flow.

6. Practice calming rituals.
Calming rituals are often seen in sports. It is mostly performed by athletes that participate in baseball, basketball, and many more. Calming rituals give you a “reset” of your emotions, bringing it back to neutrality and retains your focus.

Last but not the least, DO YOUR BEST.
