But it's also a special day for those who continuously fight for our rights as Filipinos, for those who protect and sustain our society, the frontliner who saves lives and manages crises, teachers who shapes the students' values, knowledge, and national unity, and farmers, to whom are the backbone of the nation's livestock and foods.

And to everyone who earnestly contribute to our community. Who is ready to lead, serve, care, and fight for what is right, for the better future, and for the Philippines.

𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐒𝐘𝐎𝐍 𝟎𝟒: 𝐇𝐀𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐕𝐒. 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑

Understanding the difference between a hazard and a disaster is an important part of disaster awareness and preparedness. Although these terms are often used interchangeably, they have different meanings and impacts on people, communities, property, and the environment. ⚠️

A hazard is something that has the potential to cause harm. It may be a natural event or situation that can threaten people, property, or the environment. For example, an earthquake is considered a hazard because the shaking of the ground has the potential to cause damage and injuries.

A disaster, on the other hand, happens when a hazardous event causes serious damage, disruption, or loss that significantly affects a community and makes it difficult for people to cope normally. A strong earthquake that damages buildings, roads, and essential services, for example, can become a disaster. 🚨

The same hazard can have different effects depending on its strength, location, exposure, and the community’s level of preparedness. A typhoon may be a hazard because its strong winds and heavy rainfall have the potential to cause harm. However, when a severe typhoon results in widespread flooding, damaged homes, disrupted transportation, and loss of essential services, it becomes a disaster.

In simple terms, a hazard is a potential danger, while a disaster is the serious impact that may occur when a hazard affects a vulnerable community. Understanding this distinction helps us recognize risks and realize why preparation is important.

Being aware of hazards allows us to identify possible dangers before they become emergencies. Through proper planning, preparedness, and cooperation, communities can reduce risks, respond more effectively, and lessen the impacts of disasters.

𝐁𝐈𝐃𝐀 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐋𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐈𝐕, 𝟎𝟑: “Being quiet doesn't mean you have nothing to say.”

For some student leaders, speaking in front of others doesn't always come naturally. Being shy, quiet, or hesitant can sometimes make leadership feel intimidating, especially when it seems like confident and outspoken people are the ones who naturally take the lead.

But DIR Kim learned that being quiet doesn't mean being incapable of leading.

Through her experiences in Interact, she realized that her quiet personality also gave her strengths. She learned to listen carefully, observe what was happening around her, and understand people even when they didn't always say what they were feeling directly.

Leadership isn't always about being the first to speak or having the loudest voice in the room. Sometimes, it means knowing when to listen, understanding your members, and giving others the space to express themselves. 💡

She still gets nervous. She still overthinks sometimes. But instead of seeing her shyness as something she needs to completely overcome, she learned how to work with it.

And that's something every quiet or shy student leader can learn from.

You don't have to change your personality just to become a good leader. You don't have to be the loudest person in the room. Find your own way of leading, and recognize the strengths that already exist within you.

Because leadership isn't measured by how loudly you speak. Sometimes, it's found in how carefully you listen, how deeply you understand, and how intentionally you choose to speak.

Natural disasters come in different forms, and each one can affect people, communities, and the environment in different ways. Some may happen suddenly, while others can develop over time. Knowing the different types of disasters around us helps us understand the risks we may face and prepare for what may happen. 🌍

From earthquakes and typhoons to floods, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and extreme heat, each disaster presents different dangers and challenges. Understanding how they happen and what effects they can cause allows us to recognize warning signs, follow proper safety measures, and respond more effectively during emergencies. 🚨

Disaster awareness is not only about knowing the names of different hazards. It is also about knowing how to protect ourselves and others when these situations occur. Learning the appropriate safety procedures, identifying possible hazards in our area, and understanding what to do before, during, and after a disaster are important steps toward becoming more prepared.

Although we cannot always prevent natural disasters from happening, we can lessen their impact through awareness, preparation, and cooperation. Being informed today can help us make safer decisions when faced with an emergency tomorrow.
