LINK Center for the Deaf Teacher Enhancement Program (TEP) 2017
ANNOUNCEMENT:
CALLING ALL PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS OF STUDENTS WHO ARE DEAF
LINK Center for the Deaf would like to invite you again to our annual Teacher Enhancement Program 2017 Seminar-Workshops. The 2-day seminar will be about Spiral Curriculum: What is it and how it is done?
BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION:
Since the implementation of the K to 12 program in the Philippines, teachers have been and are continuously undergoing trainings to equip themselves not only with the knowledge on how to best implement the key features of the K to 12 program but also acquire the skill on how to teach properly. Key features of the K to 12 program do not only entail an additional two-year program that would comprise the senior high school but also involve re-alignment of the curriculum, using spiral curriculum and performance tasks to gauge students’ learning. While all these new features aim to improve the Philippine educational system, it is without any doubt that teachers in the classroom are faced with a lot of challenges that need to be addressed. The shift from a ten year to a twelve-year program has its challenges. This is simply because teachers need to contend not only with new concepts but also new approaches in teaching concepts. Thus, for teachers (particularly those handling students who are deaf) to understand the K to 12 program and to equip them with necessary skills to implement the program properly, a 2-day intensive workshop on Spiral Curriculum will be provided.
SPIRAL CURRICULUM: WHAT IS IT AND HOW IS IT DONE?
Jerome Bruner believes that students can be taught any topic at any age or grade level as long as the topics are properly sequenced and presented. This seminar-workshop will equip teachers with a thorough understanding on how to sequence concepts and align these with other topics so that students will find meaning to what they are learning.
SEMINAR INFORMATION:
The seminar will be held on July 15-16, 2017 (Saturday and Sunday). The venue of the training will be at Training Room 2A, Occupational Safety and Health Center, North Avenue corner Agham Road, Diliman, Quezon City.
