Dulaang UP Theater Summer Workshop 2011

Dulaang UP Theater Summer Workshop 2011 Dulaang UP, the official performing group of the University of the Philippines, holds Theater Summer Workshop that begins on May 2, 2011.

This workshop aims to provide young people an opportunity to explore the process of “making theatre". DUP will open classes for Acting and Crafts Making and Technical Theater- Sound Design, Costume, and Lights Design, which will have a culminating recital of the students’ collaboration of honed talents on May 27, 2011. Acting and Crafts Making will teach and nourish the students with voice for the theater, stage movement, acting techniques, and basic visual arts for costume and make up for the theater. Technical Theater Workshop will teach the students with basic knowledge and practical experience with Lights, Set and Costume Design. Dulaang UP, Originally conceived in 1976 by Professor Emeritus Antonio Mabesa to be the production arm of the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts, enjoys a reputation for producing highly innovative productions of well-known masterworks of classical theater as well as original works by Filipino playwrights. It has brought the Philippine Stage quality productions such as Isang Panaginip na Fili, Shock Value, Orosman at Zafira, Maria Stuart, Atang: Dulang may Musika, and other plays that have contributed to the academic and artistic world of the Philippine Theatre. In age-appropriate workshops, students embark on fun-filled dramatic journeys. All these will be facilitated by graduates of Theater in UP and practitioners of Theater in and out of the university- Ohm David, Arkel Mendoza and Katte Sabate with lectures and workshops by Philippine theater’s in demand names such as Meliton Roxas, John Batalia, Jethro Joaquin, Tuxqs Rutaquio, Banaue Miclat, Via Antonio and many others under the guidance of Dulaang UP mentors Dr. Alexander Cortez and Dexter Santos. Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (DUP Official Page) is presenting the play "The House of Bernarda Alba" by García Lorca in English and Tagalo from September 6 to 29, 2019.

Federico García Lorca (1898-1936) is perhaps the most famous Spanish poet and playwright of the 20th century. He was part of a group of artists known as Generation '27.

One of his most successful poetry collections are "Canciones" (Songs), published in 1927, and "Romancero gitano" (Gypsy Ballads), published in 1928. Lorca became popular after the premiere of a folk drama "Bodas de Sangre" (Blood Wedding) in 1933 in Argentina. He later came back to Spain to work on more plays such as "La Casa de Bernarda Alba" (The House of Bernarda Alba) in 1936, which was his last.

Lorca was arrested and then executed in August 1936, at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

The author described "The House of Bernarda Alba" as “a drama of women in the villages of Spain”. The exclusion of any male character was a deliberate decision to depict the matriarch’s domination of five daughters.

Bukod sa kauna-unahang gintong medalya, naiuwi din ng Pilipinas ang biggest Olympic medal haul nito.

Kung ikukumpara noong 2016 Rio Olympics, kung saan nanguna ang Thailand sa 35th place na may 2 gold 2 silver at 2 bronze, sinundan ng Indonesia na may 1 gold at 2 silver sa 46th at Malaysia na may 4 na silver at isang bronze sa 60th. Habang nasa 69th place ang Pilipinas na may isang silver medal.

Ngayon, tayo na ang nangunguna at pinatunayan natin na kahit pandemic, sa !
