Happy women's month from UP FLIPP! ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ข๐ฌ ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿƒ, we put a spotlight on one of the biggest names in the library and information science field, Emily Drabinski!

In her study, โ€œQ***ring the Catalog: Q***r Theory and the Politics of Correctionโ€, she dove deep into the internal structure of classification and uncovered how ideologies seep into them. These therefore created homophobic and/or transphobic biases within these classification systems (like LCC and LCSH). Her work pioneered the thought of criticizing long standing systems that have been widely used for years and instead creating space in systems that one does not have to force themselves into.

Look into her insightful interviews here: https://www.out.com/out100/2023/storytellers/emily-drabinski,

The calls raised by Filipinos then remain relevant todayโ€”rampant corruption, police violence, red-tagging, systemic failures in our education and healthcare systems, as well as widespread povertyโ€”and it is our duty as future library and information professionals to ensure that these calls are not only documented, but continuously developed through access to reliable, truthful, and liberating information.

The institutions and collections we steward should not remain neutral grounds for remembrance. We have seen time and time again how the dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. has used these institutions and their works to sanitize his own legacy as the bodies of those wrongfully killed are literally overwritten, as done with impunity as well by those who held power after him.

Rather, our repositories of knowledge must become sites of resistance, where the wider masses not only learn their history but become empowered to write it themselves. The information and heritage that we work to preserve and echo throughout the ages serve no purpose if they are not used for direct action within our society to address the pitfalls of our history.

Under a new Marcos regime once again rife with the exploitation of the Filipino people, we call for change enabled by the memory we preserve.

Katiwala ng aklatan at impormasyon, panatilihing buhรกy, masikhay, at mapagpalaya ang diwa ng EDSA! Itaguyod at ipaglaban ang kabatiran ng bayan!

This month, we look into the innovations over in China in regards to their interactive, dynamic museums!

To adjust duration, timing, spatial prominence and even the number of these exhibits themselves, museums like the Digital Poetry Road Cultural Experience Hall look out for facial expressions and even body language of their guests. Interestingly, did you know they are pushing for non-artifact museums? China is pushing for museums to have no artifacts at all! For the sake of smaller institutes that have limited resources, they will be able to connect with the overarching history of China through their cultural tourism big-data platform! (Though, there are very major risks with data privacy to be considered in this plan ๐Ÿ˜•!)
