ABSTRACT

This thesis explores the ephemeral nature of time through Henri Bergson's philosophical concept of "duration," emphasizing the inherent continuity and unity in the flow of time. Bergson posits that time is not a linear and unbroken progression but a constantly shifting and dynamic process molded by our perceptions and experiences (Tada, 2018). The central focus of the thesis lies in the philosophical standpoint of metaphysics, illuminating the intricate relationship between life and the transient nature of time through the assemblage process showcasing video projection. Pelikulambo, positioned as a cinema in-between, is a site-specific one-night video installation, projecting silhouettes of bustling individuals in transit within the kulambo(bed net), enveloped in an ethereal fog. Kulambois a liminal space within a space, acting as a weaver between the realms of inside and outside, conscious and unconscious, the physical and the mental. The metaphorical fog mirrors the uncertainty of existence. Like everyday life,Pelikula(film) consists of multiple frames, combining different scenes to form a larger narrative of our existence.The process of assembling the installation is a contemplative journey itself; as an immersive artwork, the human-to-human and human-to-media interaction reflects the continuity beyond continuity in duration within the duration.
