Declared Center of Excellence in Foreign Languages by the Commission on Higher Education, the Department of European Languages of the University of the Philippines Diliman offers courses in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Communicative approach
Our courses are designed using the communicative approach. Students learn the four language abilities: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Competent faculty
All courses are taught by highly qualified UP instructors and professors who have been trained at reputed universities and language institutes in Europe and North America. Up-to-date learning materials and methods
Our teachers use teaching and learning materials developed in Europe which follow the standards set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for learning, teaching and assessment. Class activities primarily utilize the communicative approach and include group discussions, role-playing, simulation and language games. Requirements
There are no requirements besides the course fee to attend our extramural language courses. Certificate of attendance
A certificate of attendance is given to students who complete the course and pass the final exam given during the last day of the course. Students who miss more than three sessions cannot receive the certificate. Schedules
Regular courses
10 sessions, 3 hours/session (30 hours)

Each session includes a 15-minute break. Not all schedules may be available for all languages or levels. Intensive courses
