The Order of the Knights of Rizal is a civic and patriotic organization. It is also cultural, non-sectarian, non-partisan, and non-racial. Today, we stand in solidarity with the Filipino people in their call for justice and accountability in the face of prevalent and systemic corruption.
In El Filibusterismo, translated by Ma. Soledad Lacson-Locsin, Rizal warned:
โIf we prefer strength to prestige, we should consider well those to whom we give this unlimited power, this authority. So much power in the hands of men, and ignorant men at that, full of passions, without moral education, without proven integrity is a weapon in the hands of a madman amid a defenseless multitude.โ
These words resonate in our time. Patronage politics in the Philippines has failed to serve the interests of the people. Instead, the masses continue to suffer under the repression of state apparatuses, as well as from fraudulent activities and bogus infrastructure projects carried out by government officials in collusion with contractors and oligarchs.
The Blumentritt Chapter of the Knights of Rizal recognizes September 21 as a day to exercise our natural rights and democracy. We affirm that the peaceful and creative expression of differing views is an essential pillar of democratic vitality. In this light, we recognize and support the September 21 civic initiative as a meaningful call for justice, transparency, and principled good governance. This call is aligned with the aspirations of national economic progress, a more equitable distribution of opportunities, income, and wealth, a sustained increase in the production of goods and services for the benefit of the people, and expanded productivity as the key to raising the quality of life for all, especially the underprivileged.
As we mark the 112th death commemoration of Sir Ferdinand Blumentritt, KCR, we recall his counsel to our national hero, Dr. Josรฉ Rizal:
โPolitics is a real thing like life itself. It is necessary to fight with wretched men even though they are nothing more than cuspidors. Cโest la guerre. (That is war.)โ
In this light, the Blumentritt Chapter stands firm in upholding the spirit of the law and the principles of the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines.

Remembering Dr. Eusebio Z. Dizon (January 24, 1955 โ April 23, 2025): A Founding Pillar of Philippine Archaeology
With deep respect and gratitude, we remember the life and legacy of Dr. Eusebio Z. Dizon, a pioneering figure whose contributions laid the groundwork for archaeological practice in the Philippines. His passing marks the end of an era, but his impact on heritage, scholarship, and national identity endures.
Dr. Dizon began his distinguished career in 1977 at the National Museum of the Philippines, where he dedicated nearly five decades to the exploration and interpretation of the countryโs prehistoric past. He received formal academic training in archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he specialized in archaeometallurgy. This expertise shaped many of his most influential projects, including the landmark publications Faces from Maitum and The Metal Age in the Philippines: An Archaeometallurgical Investigation, works that continue to serve as cornerstones in the study of Philippine archaeology.
Dr. Dizon led numerous landmark excavations that reshaped our understanding of Philippine heritage, including the discovery of the Maitum Anthropomorphic Burial Jars, the limestone tombs of Kamhantik, and early human settlements in Batanes, which offered critical insights into Austronesian migration and Southeast Asian maritime networks. Notably, also he served on the technical working group for the nomination of Tabon Cave as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its significance as one of the most important early human habitation sites in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Even in the final year of his life, he remained actively engaged in archaeological fieldwork and continued his scholarly engagements that deepened local and regional archaeological heritage discourse and prehistory.
But Dr. Dizon was not only a field archaeologistโhe was a builder of institutions. In 1995, he became the founding director of the Archaeological Studies Program (ASP) at the University of the Philippines Diliman. This program has since grown into the countryโs premier center for archaeological training and research in the country. Under his leadership, the institution that is now known as the School of Archaeology became a vital space for cultivating the next generation of Filipino archaeologists, many of whom now lead their own significant projects across the country and abroad.
Dr. Dizon actively cultivated partnerships with scholars and institutions around the world. He opened avenues for international collaboration with researchers from Europe, the United States, Japan, and Australia, ensuring that Philippine archaeology was part of the broader global discourse. These partnerships enriched both local and international scholarship, fostering mutual learning, capacity building, and comparative approaches to archaeological research in island and maritime Southeast Asia.
In his role as Scientist III at the National Museum, Dr. Dizon continued to lead multidisciplinary research initiatives across diverse periods from the Paleolithic and Neolithic to protohistoric, underwater, and maritime archaeology. His comprehensive approach and dedication to methodological rigor were hallmarks of his work, and he championed partnerships between local communities, researchers, and institutions to ensure that archaeological knowledge remained both scientifically sound and socially relevant.
He leaves behind not only a body of groundbreaking research but also a generation of archaeologists, students, and cultural workers who carry forward his legacy with gratitude and pride.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Dizonโs family, friends, colleagues, and students. May his memory continue to inspire a deeper commitment to the study, protection, and celebration of the shared heritage that shapes the Filipino nation.

According to Dr. Jose P. Rizal, historical discourse serves both as a mirror and as a guideโreflecting the struggles of the past and offering insights that might shape our present and future. The Bud Dajo Massacre of 1906 remains one of the most atrocious and brutal episodes in Philippine history, yet its significance is often overlooked in mainstream narratives in Philippine history. This webinar, Massacre in the Clouds: A BARMM History Month Webinar on the 1906 Bud Dajo Massacre, seeks to remedy this historical omission by fostering a deeper understanding of the event, its implications, and its relevance to present-day conversations on the matters of justice, peace, and historical memory.
Anchored on the theme "Paggunita sa Nakaraan, Aral ng Kasalukuyan, Daan Tungo sa Mapayapang Kinabukasan" (Remembering the Past, Lessons for the Present, Path to a Peaceful Future), this initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the BARMM History Month: to commemorate pivotal moments in MinSuPalaโs history, engage with scholars, and inspire informed discourse among an audience from diverse backgrounds. By featuring Dr. Kim Wagner, an esteemed scholar of history, this webinar will provide an academically rigorous yet accessible discussion on the massacre, its colonial context, and the ways in which historical violence is rememberedโor erasedโover time.
This is a webinar, principally organized by the Knights of Rizal โ Blumentritt Chapter, in partnership with Mindanao State University - General Santos City Department of History, History Student Society, Mindanao State University - Iligan institute of Technology Historical Society and various academic organizations, to take part in the commemoration of the 2025 BARMM History Month with the theme "Paggunita sa Nakaraan, Aral ng Kasalukuyan, Daan Tungo sa Mapayapang Kinabukasan"(Remembering the Past, Lessons for the Present, Path to a Peaceful Future). This will consist of a lecture to be given by Dr. Kim Wagner, Imperial and Global History Professor of Queen Mary University of London, who has written the book Massacre in the Clouds: An American Atrocity and the Erasure of History published by Public Affairs โ Hatchette Book Group last 2024. This event aims to supplement historical knowledge of the 1906 Bud Dajo Massacre amongst Filipino and foreign audiences, while pursuing and propagating the teachings and principles of the eminent Dr. Jose P. Rizal, particularly in the study of history.
