NEES National Reading Month Kick-Off
“Reading Serves as a Bridge to an Open Heart Filled with Hope”

The celebration of National Reading Month is an important event that reminds everyone of the value of reading in learning and in life. This year’s kickoff, held on November 14, was especially memorable as the Grade 1 pupils led by their advisers were given the honor of leading the opening program. Despite their young age, they showed great enthusiasm and confidence, proving that a love for reading can start early and shine brightly.

The kick-off activity began with a cheerful presentation by Grade 1 pupils in costumes as their favorite book character. Their performance symbolized the beginning of a month-long journey of discovering stories, learning new words, and strengthening reading skills. Teachers, parents and pupils gathered to witness the start of the celebration, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and curiosity.

The Grade 1 MT in charge, teacher Shiela Juniosa, told a captivating tale about Emmang Engkantada at Tatlong Haragan. Dr. Rosella Dacquel, our principal, came next.

Meanwhile, each grade level participated in various activities designed to make reading more engaging and enjoyable in their classroom. The younger pupils took part in bookmark-making activities, allowing them to express their creativity while creating useful tools for their reading time. Their colorful and imaginative bookmarks served as reminders that reading can be both fun and artistic.

Other levels joined spelling quiz bees, where they demonstrated their spelling skills, focus, and confidence. These competitions encouraged learners to improve their vocabulary and pay closer attention to the words they encounter in books. Meanwhile, some classes built “word walls,” filling their classrooms with new and interesting words. This activity helped them expand their language skills while keeping reading materials visible and accessible every day.

Each activity, whether simple or challenging, contributed to a meaningful celebration. Teachers guided their pupils with patience, and learners supported each other with enthusiasm.

Special thanks to Ma'am Ruth Nacua, Literacy/English Coordinator, Sir Eleuterio C. Cumpio, Jr., Ma’am Michelle Amour Mendoza and Grade 1 teachers, NEES teachers, President Nanette Tercero, SPTA officers, parents, Councilor Cocoy Medina, and staff. Thank you also to our school principal, Dr. Rosella A. Dacquel, for all of her help and leadership.

To God be all the glory
