Casa Bayanihan is the University of San Francisco’s alternative study abroad program based in Metro Manila, Philippines. Rooted in the four pillars of accompaniment of marginalized communities, rigorous academics at Ateneo de Manila University, simple living in community, and spirituality, the program offers students an exceptional opportunity to experience the reality of the Philippines in a deep, transformative way.

We were so grateful for all the joy, memories and warmth from L'Arche Punla at our closing celebration yesterday. Mahal na mahal namin kayo!

We also were able to honor the praxis site of Kapit Bisig today, where our students have been accompanied over the years by many strong and deeply faithful women as well as many big-hearted and playful children. We are so grateful for all that the families have taught our students and the companionship they have provided over the years.

Today we expressed our gratitude for the community of De La Costa Homes, the place where our students and staff have been able to call home for the past six years. The generosity of God, as it was portrayed in our gospel reading of the Laborers in the Vineyard, has been truly present here in the families that have welcomed our students with open arms, good food, beautiful masses, and lots of dance parties!

We spent a lively day at La Mesa Ecopark with some of the families from the community of Sitio Payong! We are so grateful to all of the families that came to spend the day with us, and for all of the love and learning they have given to our students over the years. (And a special shoutout to all of the alumni who joined us on Facebook live!) #2011-2017

It's the inaugural day of Casa Bayanihan's closing events. For the next two weeks, Casa staff, alumni and community partners will gather to celebrate, pray and remember. After 6 years of transformative education, we are not who we were before. We begin with an outing with the kids / community of Sitio Payong. Catch us on Facebook live between 9:30-10:30am in the Philippines (Saturday, Sept 23) / 9:30pm EST (Friday, Sept 22)! We hope you'll see us there!

Another batch and another semester in the books for us here at Casa Bayanihan. Check out some pictures from out Sending Forth Ceremony. Where our students shared words dripping with gratitude and love for an incredibly rich semester.

As the ceremony closed members of our praxis communities, staff, and even families came together to send our Batch 11 students forth into what ever the future holds for them.

As the semester begins to wind down, we also begin to say our goodbyes. We got to do that just yesterday as we had the opportunity to say thank you and goodbye to our lovely neighbors in Barangka.

The festivities included newspaper dance, longest line, and limbo!

We ended the day with a refreshing merienda of coke floats 🍦

Happy Friday from the Philippines! Our model for the day is Alex Dickson, who took his coveted Casa Bayanihan t-shirt (and some friends) with him to Sagada to check out the "hanging coffins," go hiking, and explore the mountain province over Holy Week!
