"Effectiveness of a Cognitive Learning Strategy Intervention on Vocabulary Retention of Grade 6 English Learners in Atok District, Benguet"

This research offers a significant contribution to English language education by examining the effectiveness of cognitive learning strategies in improving the vocabulary retention of Grade 6 learners in selected public elementary schools in Atok District, Benguet. Using a one-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design involving 62 learners, the study demonstrated that cognitive strategiesβ€”including contextual analysis, semantic mapping, repetition, elaboration, imagery, categorization, summarization, and mnemonic techniquesβ€”substantially enhanced learners' vocabulary knowledge and long-term retention. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement between the pretest and posttest scores, highlighting the value of integrating cognitive learning strategies into elementary English instruction to strengthen language proficiency and overall academic achievement.
