In celebration of Pride Month, revisit this paper exploring the lived experiences of gay and bisexual teachers in rural Philippines.
Despite being recognized as dedicated and skilled educators, many LGBT teachers face significant workplace challenges, including discrimination and harassment.
This paper identifies specific policy gaps in schools regarding LGBT issues and discrimination. It provides evidence-based recommendations for developing inclusive school policies.

RESEARCH | Although many gay and bisexual teachers working in rural schools in the Philippines were recognized for being dedicated, creative, and skilled educators, this study found that they also faced significant challenges. Some chose to hide their sexual orientation out of fear of rejection or discrimination. To navigate these difficult workplace environments, gay and bisexual teachers adopted various professional and personal strategies. This study could help reduce stereotypes and promote greater acceptance in rural school communities.
