Today, we pause to remember a man whose name is etched into the very fabric of Philippine democracy—Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. He could have stayed in exile in the United States—safe and comfortable, but that's not his way. He knows that freedom isn't a spectator sport. He understood that if you love your country, you wouldn't abandon it in its darkest hour. His famous words, "The Filipino is worth dying for," were not merely a political slogan—they were a declaration of faith in every single Filipino. They were a challenge to our collective potential, a reminder that we are a people worth fighting for.

Let us honor him by embodying his virtues. Let us choose integrity over convenience. Let us speak up against injustice, no matter how small. Let us love our country not blindly, but actively. Let us prove, through our actions, that we are indeed a people worth dying for.

Wait, wait, wait! Why not pause for a little fun fact?

Did you know that Quezon City was once the official capital of the Philippines from 1948 to 1976? Established in 1939 through Commonwealth Act No. 502, it was President Manuel L. Quezon's plan to build a city that would serve as the seat of the government, and a lasting symbol of Filipino nationhood—envisioned long before the country even gained full independence in 1946. Fast forward to today, QC has evolved far beyond that original blueprint!

On this day, August 19, we remember the man behind the name—a leader who championed the rights and fought for social justice. Happy Quezon Day!
