Maraming salamat, UP!

As we conclude three weeks of campaigning, we congratulate and salute the 11,245 UP students who participated in this year's university and college student council elections. Indeed, our every vote is, in itself, a victory.

We also thank everyone who believed in the message of UP ALYANSA this year and communicated this to students in one way or another. At the same time, we congratulate STAND UP and KAISA and look forward to principled partnerships for the coming academic year.

Now that we have selected our next set of student leaders, the challenge is to deliver the platforms and programs promised. UP ALYANSA commits itself to this - to a year of progressive leadership, inside and outside the USC, marked by consistency in principles and concrete results.

While we have conquered and won struggles in the past year such as the RH and Sin Tax Laws, many others have to be continuously fought: institutionalizing financial transparency in our student councils, finding just and progressive solutions to fraternity-related violence, advancing our rights and welfare as students, increasing further the budget for state universities and colleges, and passing the Freedom of Information Bill, to cite some examples. As the shapes of the student movement and the rest of society constantly change, we also expect to face new battles that have yet to be determined.

The challenges ahead appear daunting. But our past victories prove how much we can achieve. Thus, as we continue making history, we are reminded by our previous successes: We will win.
