A proud day for the whole PSIS family! 💚

We couldn’t be prouder. The UP College of Education has just been named one of only five National Centers of Excellence in Teacher Education in the country — a recognition that’s truly well deserved.

This one means a lot to us. For more than a decade, we’ve had the joy of opening our classrooms to UP CEd’s student teachers — and somewhere along the way, this became more than a partnership. The bright, eager interns who once practiced their first lessons with us are now our colleagues. Some are even leading our team today.

That’s what excellence looks like up close: it doesn’t stay behind in the lecture hall. It walks into your school, grows into a teacher, and stays to shape the next generation.

Our PSIS team had the privilege of joining today’s Regional Education Summit for Private Schools, hosted by DepEd NCR.

Anchored on the theme

“Strengthening Collaboration Towards New Directions in Philippine Education,”

the summit gave us valuable takeaways — from Secretary Sonny Angara’s 5-Point Agenda and the new SY 2026–2027 school calendar, to the Strengthened SHS Curriculum and DepEd Order No. 6, s. 2026 on ensuring a safe and motivating learning environment.

We came home with renewed commitment to protect instructional time, empower our educators, and safeguard the well-being of every learner. 💙

In our classroom, stories are not simply given to children — they are created with them. Through collaborative drawing and storytelling, our students learn to listen to one another’s ideas, express their own thoughts confidently, negotiate, imagine, problem-solve, and create meaning together. ☺️

This is the heart of progressive education: children are not passive learners memorizing answers from a board. They are active participants, thinkers, creators, and storytellers of their own learning experiences. 💡

One drawing becomes a character. Another child adds a setting. Someone invents a problem. Someone else creates the ending. Before they know it, they’re practicing communication, creativity, literacy, social-emotional skills, and teamwork — all while genuinely enjoying the process.

At PSIS, we believe children learn Math best when they truly understand the concepts behind the numbers — not when they are pressured to memorize formulas too early. 💡

That’s why we use the Singapore Math approach in our classrooms: helping children explore, visualize, and make sense of mathematical ideas in a hands-on and meaningful way.

From using sticks and manipulatives to grouping, chunking, and breaking down numbers, our students learn that multiplication isn’t just about memorizing tables — it’s about understanding patterns, relationships, and quantity. Big concepts become easier because children can see and experience how Math works before solving it abstractly. 🪵➗➕

Because when kids understand the why, learning becomes less scary, more engaging, and much more powerful. ✨
