50TH ANNIVERSARY OF MOON BUGGY'S DEBUT

On this day in 1971, the famous Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) was first used by Apollo 15 astronauts on the surface of the Moon. In its debut, the first LRV was used for 3 hours and travelled around 27.8 kilometers across the Hadley-Apennine region.

The Apollo 15 mission was launched on July 26, 1971, carrying NASA astronauts David R. Scott, Alfred M. Worden, and James B. Irwin, aboard the command module Endeavour. This mission, which we're celebrating the 50th anniversary this year, also marked the first time the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV), popularly known as the "Moon Buggy," was used on the Moon. After a nearly 3-day cruise, the astronauts Scott and Irwin landed on Moon, near the Hadley Rille, on July 30. Their 18.5 hours of extravehicular activity (EVA) became the longest and well-travelled compared to its predecessors because of the LRV. They travelled approximately 27.8 kilometers on the surface of the Moon and collected 77 kilograms of surface material. The crew returned on Earth on August 7, after conducting a series of firsts in tests and technologies.

WHAT IS THE LRV?

The Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) is 210-kilogram four-wheeled rover that was built by Boeing for NASA's Apollo 15, 16, and 17 lunar landing missions. An LRV can carry a maximum payload of 490 kilograms - including the two astronauts, equipment, and lunar samples. Like a golf cart on Earth, this vehicle is designed only for a top speed of around 13 kilometers per hour. Just like the other surface equipment, every after EVAs, the astronauts leave the LRV on the lunar surface. Though it looks simple and pretty bare than a typical car, each LRV actually costs around $9 million back in 1971.

SHORT BUT SWEET | Thank you for making your leadership felt by the whole school community right from the moment you set foot on campus. While you will be parting ways with RMCHS for now, the school will certainly remember all the lessons you have imparted to everyone throughout your stint as the FATHER of Monsay for the past two academic years.

You are one leader who has become great not because of your power but because of your ability to empower others. You've empowered the whole RMCHS community even in the midst of this pandemic.

The school wishes you all the best as you take your new responsibilities as principal of Batasan National High School, Dr. Escolano!

ROBOTICS CHRONICLES Story No. 4 - Horizons

On the 18th of July 2019, had established their first version of their page here on Facebook.

Last year, the first page, named RMCHS Robotics CLUB, has been ushering as a new page that documents all the happenings of the club that year, including the PRO and PREO 2019 that happened on Fisher Mall, Quezon City.

However, the page didn't manage to waver that much through, so it entered into a state of hiatus before rebooting as the club page that we know today.

The RMCHS Robotics Club is one with celebrating the 47th National Nutrition Month that is held for the month of July with the year's theme being, "Malnutrisyon Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan!" ๐ŸŒพ

As in line with the Science and the TLE Department, Monsay Roboticists are celebrating this month to spread the cause to fight against malnutrition in the Philippines. ๐Ÿค–

And as roboticists, we cannot deploy our robots well if we haven't ate too well before doing it. ๐Ÿฆพ

May we support the cause of the 47th National Nutrition Month led by National Nutrition Council (NNC).

"Araw ng Kalayaan" or the Philippine Independence Day is the memorialization of patriotism, heroism, and bravery of the Filipino people. This is why the 12th day of June symbolizes the day where the Philippines is completely independent from any entity who dares to oppress it. ๐ŸŒ

Today's generation must know that this isnโ€™t only a day of Independence for our motherland but also is a day to celebrate and to be dedicated in everything that we do because like all our patriotic countrymen did in their time, we shouldnโ€™t doubt the power to orchestrate changes through our words and deeds. ๐Ÿค–

With the theme, "Kalayaan 2021: Diwa ng Kalayaan sa Pagkakaisa at Paghilom ng Bayan", how does the history of this holiday give significance to us? Let us take a step back onto our history of independence.

On June 12, 1898, the Philippine flag was raised for the very first time by General Emilio Aguinaldo after he issued a decree setting aside the date as a proclamation of independence. Three women designed the flag: Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo, and Delfina Herboza.

The national anthem, โ€˜Lupang Hinirangโ€™ (played by the San Francisco de Malabon marching band), filled the air for the first time. On the same day, Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista read out the 21-page document of declaring independence from the Spanish, which lasted for 333 years.

But this didn't went out too well, as Spain initially didn't recognize Aguinaldoโ€™s declaration of independence. At the end of the Spanish-American war in May 1898, Spain surrendered and gave the United States control of their territories, including the Philippines. In 1946, the U.S. government offered the Philippines the opportunity to establish statehood like Hawaii, but leaders in the Philippines opted to be an independent country. This made to U.S. grant the much awaited independence to the nation on July 4, 1968, through the Treaty of Manila.

Originally, Independence Day in the Philippines was celebrated on the 4th of July to match the U.S. However, in 1962 President Diosdado Macapagal declared June 12th as Independence Day to commemorate the actual anniversary date of the end of Spanish rule in the country.

On the upcoming Independence Day, Monsay Roboticists are hoping that all Ramonians remember the true meaning of it, and may we all show our style of honoring and loving our motherland. Even with the challenging times, let us continue to be proud of the land that we are born. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ
