Happy birthday to this chic, whimsical, esoteric baddie of ENG-301, Bryle! πŸ’

Quiet and composed, yet somehow harbouring a little storm beneath all that calm. She speaks so gently, so softly, with the grace of a swan, that sometimes you have to wonder if she actually said something or if your ears simply decided to take a holiday. 🀭

And if you ever place a photo of Angelina Jolie beside hers, you might not even notice there’s another picture there in the first place because your attention would already be completely occupied by her. We are only being objective here! πŸ’―

Today, the whole Education Department is celebrating you, Bryle! As a teacher in the making, you have the potential to inspire voices, nurture confidence, and make your future classroom a place where every student feels heard. The irony, of course, is that your own voice is so quiet we sometimes need and look for subtitles! πŸ”Ž

There is so much ahead of you, Bryle, and we hope you remember that you do not have to have everything figured out just yet. May you take your time becoming the person you want to be, celebrate the progress that others may not see, and trust that even the smallest steps can lead to beautiful places.

Keep that wonderfully whimsical soul of yours. 🦒

Here’s to all that lies ahead, Bryle!

There is no shame in having a difficult day. There is no weakness in saying, β€œI need someone.” And there is no rule that says you have to figure everything out by yourself.

Sometimes, hope arrives quietly. It can be a person who listens, a conversation that comes at the right time, or someone reminding you that the pain you feel today does not have to define all the days ahead.

Research has found that stories centred on hope and recovery can have a protective effect on suicidal thoughts, reminding us that messages of healing and possibility can matter. (Niederkrotenthaler et al., 2022).

So check on the people you love. Listen without judgement. Give them room to speak. Remind them that needing help is not something to be ashamed of.

We would rather hear you out, sit with you through the hardest conversations, and remind you that you matter than ever have to wonder what could have happened if you had reached out.

Your hardest chapter is still only a chapter.
There are pages ahead that you haven't read yet. 🩡

And if today feels heavy, you don't have to read the whole story at once. Just turn the page when you're ready. Let someone sit beside you while you do.

Sometimes, hope begins with simply knowing you don't have to carry the story alone. πŸ«‚

You are not alone. You are loved. You matter.

They paved the way for us. The teachers who stayed late under a flickering light, who believed in us before we believed in ourselves, who showed up when the world looked away. Because of them, we’re here now. Because of them, we keep going.

This is the noblest profession. It’s sacred work. We stand as mediators between what was and what can be, between doubt and becoming, between a child’s silence and their voice.

We’re the ones who notice the quiet student in the back. Who spend our own money on markers and school materials. Who stay ten minutes longer just to say, β€œYou did good today.”

And perhaps that is the miracle of this work: we leave pieces of ourselves in people we may never fully know the impact of.

They can underpay us. They can’t outlove us.

To every teacher who continues to show up, to every educator who gives more than what is asked, and to every future teacher preparing to carry the torch: this month is for you.

Happy National Teachers’ Month! πŸ«ΆπŸ“–
